Next big thing will be using chemicals just like the body does to program technically living things. This could be for anything ranging from a motor fed by carbohydrates to a organism that circulates the body, lengthens telemeres and restructures DNA for a humans benefit.

The next big things wont be to do with computers which are literally just logic gates which have been around for hundreds of years.

The next big thing will completely redefine almost everything we know just like the computer did.

Well my personal opinion is that new big thing will be computers who make programs. For that you need to go to architecture lvl and change it. I know that some branches of AI makes it possible now, but because of how AI works i dont think they will manage to produce it because for that you need something that will work 100% of time without any human interaction. :)
