I understand
This is the offer
>>
Meh, i'd rather have 2x2560x1440 or a single 3840x2160

3440x1440 is a meme resolution as there will be little to no source material mastered in that resolution, all media is going to be 1080p or 2160p (4k). 3440x1440p is DOA.
>>
>>56213034
Aspects... There are a number of films that are shot in 21:9
>>
>>56213078
name 5 that are mastered for that aspect ratio.

soo... what videocard will I need to play Witcher 3 60ps on this monster? 1080? Fury X? I'm guessing the 480 won't cut it.

Doesn't change anything really.

Not to mention on a true 4k display you should just be able to create a custom resolution of 3440x1440 if you REALLY want something ultrawide, you'll just have blackbars at the top and a little on the sides.

40" 3840x2160 IPS is currently the best in my opinion.

yup, if you want to watch widescreen movies just create a resolution of 3840x1650

you'll have ~200 pixels on the top and the bottom as black bars, but meh. General desktop use is better.

It's PVA not IPS, but unless you're a professional it wont matter for you.

Right now good 4k panels are where 2560x1440p panels were a few years ago where cheap Korean panels were 90% as good as high end ones, but cost 1/2 as much.
>>
>>56213582
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQ0a0eAPT7s

The ultrawide looks so much better though.
>>
>>56213639
That's a 27" 4k which is retarded.

40" 4k is perfect because it's the same pixel density you're used to and requires no windows GUI scaling.

Anything under 36" for 4k would be dumb.

If you're going between a tiny 4k panel and a 34" 1440p, obviously get the 34".

But a 40" 4k panel would be hands down better.
>>
>>56212958

>>56213625
>but unless you're a professional it wont matter for you.
or you're bothered by everything looking like shit
>>
>>56213734
if you think PVA looks like shit you're retarded, sure it wont be as color accurate as IPS, but it's far from TN panels in terms of colors.
>>
>>56213685
>40" 4k is perfect because it's the same pixel density you're used to and requires no windows GUI scaling.
i.e. the same shitty pixel density that makes everything look like ass?

Why bother when you can get much better image quality out of a 30" 4K panel?
>>
>>56213754
how is 110ppi shit?

A 27" 1440p monitor is 108PPI
A 24" 1080p monitor is 98PPI
so 40" 4k being 110PPI is slightly sharper than what most people are used to.

I am using 1440p at 25" which is 117PPI, anything over 120PPI would be too sharp and you'd want to start GUI scaling. a 30" 4k panel would be almost 150PPI which 100% would require scaling to be usable.

VA has angle dependent backlight leakage just like TN does, only difference is it gets brighter in both directions instead of brighter in one and darker in another
>>
>>56213804
>technology isn't allowed to move forwards, we should stick to the lowest common denominator of display densities for the rest of eternity
enjoy your shitty aliased text and blocky pixels I guess

>a 30" 4k panel would be almost 150PPI which 100% would require scaling to be usable.
I sit about 70cm away from my 150 dpi display and I can still see individual pixels, ergo it's not enough for true retina quality unless I move even further back
>>
>>56213817
yes I know how viewing angles work, that has nothing to do with color accuracy however.

If you're not going to be seated directly in front of your monitor just get a fully adjustable monitor arm so you can move it so it IS in front of you.

>>56213846
>I sit about 70cm away from my 150 dpi display and I can still see individual pixels, ergo it's not enough for true retina quality unless I move even further back
Bullshit, using the isitretina? calculator shows 3840x2160 at 30" becomes retina at a distance of 58cm or greater.
>>
>>56213625
OP here, should I pull the trigger on this one ? It seems nice.
>>
>>56213873
Look at the reviews, they are all pretty good and going back several months so it doesn't have a history of bad production or anything like that. I'd personally take that over an ultrawide meme.
>>
>>56213894
Ok but look at this and the comments
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aADAuwu0mA4

It looks like shite.
>>
>>56213869
>If you're not going to be seated directly in front of your monitor just get a fully adjustable monitor arm so you can move it so it IS in front of you.
I see you don't understand how viewing angles work. Unless your monitor is curved, that's impossible. You are always going to be viewing the majority of the display at an off-angle, which is what distorts the colors

http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/viewing_angle.php

Look at this page on your TN and see what I mean
>>
>>56213940
Like I said, if you're doing color accurate work and are a professional, you'll want IPS.

If you aren't autistic and it's your only display (you aren't comparing it directly against an IPS or something) then you wont even notice.
>>
>>56213869
>Bullshit, using the isitretina? calculator shows 3840x2160 at 30" becomes retina at a distance of 58cm or greater.
Mine's actually 4096x2160 at 32" but w/e

I don't need a website to tell me what I can and can't see...
>>
>>56213968
>on your TN
sorry I dont own one
>>
>>56213969
Yes I'm a video editor.
>>
>>56213969
>If you aren't autistic
then get the fuck off /g/

This is the place where we care about quality. I bet you also use $5 wallmart headphones
>>
>>56213984
that would be 61cm then, either way if you're legit at 70cm+ you're full of shit.

$20 says you can only see individual pixels if you're leaning forward closer than 61cm.
>>
>>56213969
>>56213998
Although i'll mostly use this monitor for gaming and watching movies but I'll definitely do video editing on it.
>>
>>56213998
Well if you're a real professional video editor (as in getting paid), investing in an IPS 4k display would probably be a better idea than 3440x1440p simply because MANY projects you will work on will likely be moving up to 4k in the next few years if they aren't already.
>>
>>56214011
I'll accept that bet, how do you want me to prove this to you?

P.s. I don't know what number that website uses, but the quality of human vision varies greatly from person to person.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_acuity#.22Normal.22_visual_acuity

“20/20” vision is about 1 px/am, which seems about right considering what that site goes by. But it's very common especially for younger individuals to have significantly better eyesight than that, because this is based off a population average.

Anyone recommend a good 144hz 1080p monitor under $300?
>>
>>56214036
Which 4K IPS monitor is the best ? Are there any under 600$, if not I'll just get the ultrawide, it seems comfortable.
>>
>>56214105
What size, faggot?

You can get 4K monitors for under $600 but they'll be like 24"

Screen cost scales quadratically with the displa diagonal
>>
>>56214139
Exactly right, I'll just get this LG.
>>
>>56214105
40" 4k IPS are gonna start probably around $1k.

you wont find anything right now at $600 40" and 4K while also being IPS. which is why i sent you the MVA one. But if you need IPS it will cost more right now, that's just the reality. But I dont really see the value in buying 3440x1440p cause you will need to replace it in only a few years when 4K gets cheaper and you are working on more 4k projects.
>>
>>56214172
Idiots like you are why all displays are shit: Consumers just buy whatever they see in the advertising without giving two solid shits about display quality
>>
>>56214181
That's what I thought.
Well I have a 1080p 24" right now so everything will be an upgrade at this point but 600$ is already way too much for me.
>>
>>56214253
What would you recommend, then?
>>
>>56214253
Except this actual monitor seems really good except for the 60Hz.
>>
>>56214272
Depends on your requirements, obviously. List what requirements you have for your monitor.

Also, you should be able to answer all of these questions about your display before buying it:

>What's the panel technology? TN, IPS, PVA? Who made the panel?
>What's the panel's native resolution?
>What's the diagonal size, and what DPI does this work out to?
>What viewing distance will you be using it at?
>What's the native refresh rate, and does it accept other refresh rates? If so, which range? Can you overclock it?
>What's the advertised native color gamut?
>What's the static contrast ratio?
>Does it have “dynamic contrast” antifeatures, and can you turn them off?
>What's the brightness range, and how stable is the contrast ratio as you adjust the brightness?
>Does it use a flicker-free brightness adjustment? (Be especially wary of PWM cycles)
>Does it use any pixel overdrive, and if so can you adjust the strength or turn it off?
>What's the viewing ratio gamma stability like?
>What bit depth does the display advertise? 6+FRC? 8? 8+FRC?
>Does it support FreeSync / Adaptive Sync? (What about G-SYNC?)
>What display coating does it use?
>In the case of LCD displays, what polarizer technology does it use?
>In the case of LCD displays, what backlighting technology does it use? CCFL? WLED? GB-r LED? RGB LED?
>What's the display's input signal latency?
>What's the display's VESA response times? What about G2G?
>Does the display support VESA mounts? What height/adjustments does the mount support? Can you use it in portrait mode?
>What's the power consumption like?
>What's the panel uniformity like? Does the backlight leak? Does it have active uniformity compensation?
>Does it use local dimming? If so, can you turn it off? And how many sectors?
>What signal formats does it support? ST2084? B67? PPC?
>>
>>56214405
Ok so you don't even look at the specs of the monitor I want and you say I just buy whatever I see in the advertising ?

This LG seems good, I'm gonna buy it.
>>
>>56212958
>34"
Lol. Are you stupid?
>>
>>56214515
he's proven that, he's too impatient to save up for a 4k IPS 40" panel that he can use for the next 5-10 years and instead is falling for a meme he will have to replace in a few years if he is still employed doing this work anyway.
>>
>>56214515
why
>>
>>56214546
I'm considering all the options.
This offer seemed nice that's all.
My screen is so small right now, I just want a bigger one.
>>
>>56214503

Then again, the brand LG pretty much gave that way. I'm personally never buying from them again, pure horseshit.
