I checked the catalog and didn't see any build question threads, but I'd like to get some advice before I start buying parts. This is my first build, and I feel like there is some fat I could trim, but I'm looking to build a gaming rig with some longevity that can run CAD programs as well for school.
are cars /g/?
Unless you're gonna do stuff like
>VMs
>Play games requiring more than 8GB RAM
>Game Server Hosting
or
>80+ tabs in chrome
You shouldn't really need more than 16 GB RAM
>>56211922
Besides the RAM, is everything else pretty good?
>>56211962
Don't buy a Seagate drive and if you really want to cut down on price get rid of that stupid aio cooler
>>56212003
Use something noctua for cpu cooler
>>56212003
so i'm gonna switch to a western digital, but what should i do about the cooler?
>>56212094
nevermind
>>56212032
hijacking this thread for my own question. what are some mistakes that first time builders make?
>>56212254
-psu with huge wattage
-mismatch cpu MoBo and RAM
-high end gpu for 1080p
->soundcards with no professional
>>56211744
if you're planning to overclock cpu+gpu you will need a better PSU
>>56212424
650w? or higher?
>>56211744
Do you really need an optical drive and can't you just reuse one from a pre-built?
Took everyone's advice and this is where I'm at. Yea/Nay
>>56212517
I don't have one that is blu ray, and I'd like to replace all of my players/consoles/etc with one unit, hence the drive.

using this:outervision.com/power-supply-calculator
on my rig i5-6600k+GIGABYTE 1070, I set worst case scenario+running 24/7 and it recomened 650 80 plus gold check for your self
and also if you're not planning on adding a second 1070 (wich I recommned not doing so even with AMD) get a cheaper Z170
