Its 2016

Is there any good reason why these arent in a standard clump yet?

They are always a pain to get in with my neckbeard sausage fingers
>>
To be able to plug backwards. LED on when not booted and off when booted. Sounds stupid but godsent when using in dark.
>>
>>56201616
some cases do have them that way.

use jeweler's pliers.
>>
>>56201646
yeah because i should buy a set of pliers to build a pc
>>
>>56201678
You should own a set of pliers, anyways. Whether you use it on your PC or something else entirely.

They're not a standard clump, because motherboard manufacturers don't have a settled upon arrangement that is a standard.
>>
>>56201678
Some people still have motherboards with jumpers on them
>>
>>56201692
thats what im getting at.. its 2016

>OP is morbidly obese

You should consider suicide.

Not an argument.
>>
>>56201724
i think you should end your skinny white male life

things are only going to get worse for you. get out now while you can
>>
Seriously? I have neckbeard sausage fingers and have no goddamn problem with those things.
>>
I dont want all those plugged in
>>
>>56201709
Just because it's 2016 doesn't mean we need to have standards for everything.
And I appreciate that I don't have to plug everything into the mobo to get shit to work.

>..
>using ellipses
Fuck off.
>>
>>56201735
>>>/pol/
>>
Forget sausage fingers. I have eyesight problems. I have to dig up the manual for every system I build, just so I can actually read the headers. I fucking hate them.

Luckily, most boards are shipping out with front panel header extensions. Makes everything a lot easier to see.

>>56201678

>I SHOULDNT HAVE TO BUY TOOLS TO MAKE MY LIFE EASIER :(((

It's not like you bought a screwdriver to build your PC, oh wait.

>skinny white male

I wonder where you got that from.
There was no indication nor implication of my weight, race or sex.

You on the other are morbidly obese (sausage fingers).
Fat acceptance only works with feminist pigs, you're a male pig and male pigs should end themselves.
>>
>>56201836
barely need a screwdriver no more

also everyone has screwdrivers
>>
>>56201863
Well everyone has pliers.
I don't see where you are going with this.

Hint, not everyone owns screwdrivers.
>>
>>56201890
source is your ass
>>
Asus has a really neat Q-connector thing that does what you need.
>>
>>56201694
What do motherboards have instead of jumpers these days? Dip switches? Or all and any configuration is now software and to be done from the firmware configuration program?

thanks anon
>>
>>56201955
So my ass, versus your ass.
So in the end you acted like you mattered or that your opinion on this subject mattered at all, but that your ass is a more reliable source.

You should own pliers or a Swiss Army Knife or something with them attached.
>>
>>56201724
What's with all the suicide suggestions being posted lately over some petty little things? It's unfunny at best.
>>
>>56201836
To be fair, I've never bought tools in my life. Hell, everyone I've moved I've ended up with another flathead screwdriver and some wrenches I've never seen before.
>>
>>56202082
stay on leddit
>>
>>56201616
So you can selectively plug them in, in whatever config you want. Switch up the hdd/power leds or plug in only either or the other, switch the reset and power on, have only reset plugged in and power-on doing nothing (and your machine set to always-on via bios), or perhaps connect reset into the bios firmware reset in case you get a bad OC, etc.

I have my machine set up with the ugly as fuck HDD led disconnected, and the much nicer looking power led connected to the HDD activity.
>>
>>56202057
most people owning a screwdriver is hardly pulling anything out my ass.

you saying jewelers pliers are more common than screwdrivers is
>>
>>56202240
I'm not saying that at all, I'm saying is that people at least own a pair of random pliers.
They might not be perfect, they might not be flat, but they'll help you, you fat fuck.
>>
>>56202082
projections, mostly
I'd say a majority of people here are self loathing
>>
>>56201616
I don't connect anything other than the power switch

LEDs are dumb
>>
Dude! This is my least favorite part of any build.haha Everything runs smoothly until you get to this shit!
>>

I don't think electricity works that way.

BIOS settings.
>>
>>56201724
He's right though, it's a standard on all ATX boards so why are they still separate?
>>
>>56204565
Do they have them for motherboards? If not

Fuck off with your thump screw meme.
>>
>>56204618
Well, if they fit and don't collide with a capacitor or some shit in the way, they work.
>>
>>56201642
>switch wires
>now phone works when battery is removed rather than inserted
thanks, science!

>>56201616
because it's too late, doing so would mean a new standard
if they made them one block now, existing boards might not work with new cases
>>

it just might

>>
>>56202082
>lately
How long have you been on 4chan exactly? Or just the internet in general?
>>
>>56201994
This, even a socket 478 motherboard came with a Q-connector for the front panel, hell it also came with one for the audio so you don't fuck up between AC 97 and HD Audio, i don't see why you won't use or get one of those.
>>
They're only so bad because of their positioning. If you plug them into the motherboard before you place it into the case or before you connect everything else up they're very straight forward and easy.
>>
>>56201616
I don't get why people have trouble with these, honestly. I just built my first pc a week ago and I had no problems at all whatsoever with them.
The 24 pin on the other hand can go straight back to the hell where it came from.

>>56201678
You can simply attach them to the motherboard before putting it in the case.
>>
I literally only connect the PWR one, none of the others serve any purpose
>>
>>56201616
i hope that they stay like that. i dont want the leds connected.
>>
>>56201616
Because
>plugging in LEDs
means you are a casual

Only thing you really need is the power switch, MAYBE the reset switch but it's sort of redundant with the power switch
>>
>build first pc
>everything is ready to go, just need to power on
>moment of truth..
>mfw nothing turns on
>fuck
>spend 4 hours figuring out why shit wont work
>no lights, nothing
>start to think psu is defective
>rewatch video, followed it perfectly
>read manual instead
>i had the power sw plugged in the wrong pin slot(where the reset is supposed to be)

yea they almost made me shit myself
>>
>>56207212
its not. i dont want to restart my hdds if i have to reset it.
>>
>>56207492
When do you need to press the reset switch to restart your PC?

>During running system: `reboot`
>During boot: ctrl+alt+del
>During freeze: magic sysrq
>>
>>56206063
Those things are awful, they cause shit to come unplugged way too much.
>>
>>56207212
>Not liking flashing indicator lights
Were you abused as a child?
>>
>>56201762
how is that pol
>>
>2016
>desktop computers

lmao fucking dorks
>>
>>56207558
I like sleeping

My case LEDs are bright blue, which makes it impossible. (I do still get yellow, orange and red flashing but those don't keep me awake)
>>
Tape or glue them together.
>>
>>56206063
This shit never fucking works. I tried it for 3 different mainboards and for some reason the connectors never match. Its way more painful trying to attach this shit than simply plugging in 10 single connectors.
>>
>>56204780
plastic coated thumbscrews exist, senpai
>>
>>56204532
There's a battery in the CPU for a reason B)
>>
>>56207560
Not who you're quoting, but it's a Molyneux-tier thing to say. Good job.
>>
>>56201616
Is there any good reason why you're so fat?
>>
>>56207578
I do too, so I turn my computer off and let my server run in a different room.
>>
>>56207840
I only have one room; and besides, it's comfier this way
