I can get a used note 4 for ~$180.

I still plan on using my iphone 5s as my real phone but using the note 4 as a notepad / grocery list / ideas pad on the go.

I figure it's new enough hardware wise to work just fine for a few years and the spen to take little ideas/things I need would be easier than other methods of keeping them.

I'm considering a Note myself, but why bother juggling two devices? Why not just switch to the Note completely? Especially if you feel it'll be that useful in the first place.

>>56191716
depends on what version on the phone you get.
if you get a samsung, samsung handles them.
if you get a carrier locked samsung, the carrrier handles them.
if you get a nexus, google handles them, and you get the updates first since they control android themselves.

>The performance issues aren't just limited to benchmarks. Motorola's previous phones provided a smooth experience despite their limited specifications, and the Moto G4 and G4 Plus are significantly jankier throughout the UI, with even the simplest of ListViews stuttering at times.

>This is most certainly an issue of software rather than hardware, and stability issues with tests like PCMark battery don't inspire any confidence in the Moto G4's software quality either.

>Couple that with Motorola refusing to commit to monthly security updates and there's a lot of reason to be concerned about whether the Moto G4 is ever going to get to a state where it's performant and secure.

>Ultimately, I don't think the Moto G4 is a bad smartphone, but the Huawei Honor 5X provides an equally good experience and has been widely available since the start of the year. The Moto G4 has just arrived too late to be relevant.

>As we move toward the end of 2016 and into 2017, there are going to be new mid-range devices at these prices that greatly surpass the performance, camera, and build quality of the Moto G4, and even right now there are better options available.

Usually, yeah. You should wait for Marlin and Sailfish reviews though.

I got a good seriously rugged phone suggestion the other day. I forgot to bookmark it.

Does anyone know which one it was or something similar? The post included several youtube video tests how it withstood being run over by a truck, hammering with the screen side on a nail, dropped face down, being watertight and such. I think the price was 200 or 300 USD with decent overall specs and a big battery. Case was typical rugged with angled sides.

I checked OP but I couldn't find it.

Using s6 atm, wife uses the s7. Only notable difference is hers is waterproof (it lives up to the hype) and mine is not. Have tried both in Samsung Gear VR: no notable difference but then again I'm not a sensitive man baby when it comes to that shit. It's a little blurry on both phones and is certainly no full vr headset but it's pretty immersive after you get comfy and focus in on the VR environment, again neither phone in my opinion performed better here. The only major downside for using s7 or s6 for VR is that it OBLITERATES battery life because the phones become housefire material after about 20 minutes of use.

So what I'm saying is, get a galaxy s6, a lifeproof case, and a fire extinguisher. Shit is cash. Also the s6 back camera is a little better on wee details in photos and videos and it is kinda noticable.

Sorry m8t, don't know anything abot axiom.

Also since we're on the topic of things to do with smartphones: I just bought a bluetooth mouse and a while back bought a bluetooth keyboard for mine. Galaxy S6, it's pretty neato. The mouse was super cheap so wasn't sure if it would work but I'm using it now and my only complaint is that it's a tad laggy but only by fractions of a second, but that's no bother, as I didn't get it to do anything face paced. Mostly got it for when I'm in the field or away from home, I can just pack a little back with the mouse and keyboard and it functions like a little tablet without having spent the money to buy a hole laptop or tablet for the sake of travel and field work.

I also just did it to see if it would work, what it feels like, all that, the keyboard is the Logitech Keys to Go and the mouse is the Black Web BWB15HO213.

Anyone else here tried this on theirs?

Who else think the new Nexus devices (Sailfish and Marlin) will turn out to be massive let-downs?

>>

*bag, *whole. Also because it's faster and easier to write on the keyboard, a little easier to navigate with the mouse, although I am still prone to typing error as the keys are surprisingly difficult to tap. This is actually good also if the wife wants to use our main computer for work, school, games and I have other shit to do that I can get done on my phone.

I'm not sure what carrier to look for either; I've never had a smart phone but am about to come around to being able to afford one soon so I'm just kind of looking for something basic-but-not-shit to get a handle on 'em before I look to replace it with something super quality.

HTC sells overpriced shit.
They try too hard to be premium.

The HTC 10 is almost 100€ more expensive than a Samsung S7, which you can get from time to time for 499€.

Looking at the leaked pictures, the design is mind-blowing shit with huge bezels with a very ugly backcover and furthermore they feature nothing new, other than the standard 820 Snapdragon and just a Vanilla Android 7.0.X OS.

They will sell Marlin for 600-700€ here, that's for sure.
Not to forget that there is no micro-SD slot.

I don't know why anyone would buy it, when there is OP3 for 400 bucks, and enough custom roms out there, and a big enough community that will deliver roms with the most recent Android version.

Is there a new big battery phone? Any news about the k6000 premium or should I just get a v10 with extended battery for 430€..? The housefire can't be worse than my HTC m7, but if the bootloop thing is true it's not an option...

The redmi pro with the x25 doesn't look bad but how are the chances to get cm on a mediatek processor?
Import costs will push the price up to a 70€ difference between this and the v10 (excluding the battery) so it doesn't look worth getting chink software support.
Chinkphone or not Chinkphone? Something else to consider?

Hey there, I'm due for a new phone, I currently have a HTC One M7. I live in the US and my carrier is Sprint, which leaves me with very little options. I've been debating between the HTC 10, the LG G5 and the iphone 6s. I have the option for one of the samsung phones but honestly i've used my friends galaxy s6 and i did not like it one bit. As for features, I just want what my current phone does, but newer. I'm actually leaning towards the HTC 10 though, because of the expendable storage seems nice.

Anyone here have any of those phones thats willing to share how they feel about them?

I also have a question regarding the iphone, does it have a tethering option like android phones do? And if I "jailbreak" the iphone can I use it without needing my carrier to "enable" the service or whatever the fuck they do? I know my m7 I just installed a custom ROM and was able to use tethering without restrictions
>>
>>56197682
If you're into quality audio just go for the HTC 10. Camera is good, experience is great, very fluid and no lag at all.
I wouldn't know about the carrier specific thing on the iPhone because I'm not from the US.

Mini review of 5x

Pros:
>still the cheapest bang for your buck outright phone in Canada
>camera and bloat free Android is great
>constant Google updates fix """"problems"""" monthly
>good phone size for one handed use
>videos and text look great
>charging is good / 1-2 hours full 100% if you DON'T use the phone while charging
>upon fresh reboot, phone is the fastest device I've ever held
If rooted:
>easy to root / Pure Nexus ROM + Ex Kernel made my device faster and last longer battery wise
>no reboots necessary, always runs great

Cons:
>overpriced in Canada. Find a friend in the US to buy it for you. I made the mistake to buy it full price at $499, 32GB
>battery does 4hrs SOT tops, with no extensive apps like Pokémon GO or Snapchat
>gets hot as fuck. Slows down if it gets passed 45 degrees C.
>heat will destroy your battery, will not let the phone charge if you've pushed the 5x too much
>plastic build makes it feel cheap as hell Again, get this for the ~$250 US price tag to justify
If rooted:
>battery is still 4hrs SOT
>phone stays WAY cooler, not as many heat issues but Pokémon still kills it

tl;dr I liked it, esp coming from the 5 and didn't want to cash out $700. If in Canada, do NOT buy full retail price from the Google Canada Store. Go for a Newegg or some type of reputable retailer that will sell it to you for the US prices.
I ended up selling it for a decent $450 after owning it for 6 months.

>>
>>56202813
note 7 will win in benchmarks but in day to day tasks, like loading apps, an iPhone 6 would win pretty handily

at the time, iPhone 6 single core processing absolutely demolished any android. even now it wins narrowly, probably due to pushing less pixels and shit. and having every app optimized for ios, as well as having the OS optimized to the hardware

They're not that different these days. iPhone has a slight edge for hardware optimization and using faster storage but Android packs quite a bit more capability than iOS, such as true multi-tasking and a dizzying array of options for how you want to interact with your phone and how you want your phone to present information. iOS can't even play webms without having to share them to VLC, and it wasn't even until recently that the share menu was open to more than a finite list of apps that Apple approved. When you have an OS as dirt simple as iOS it's hard to fuck up.

Cricket is good and so is AT&T Go Phone. I haven't used any others, but I'd recommend either of those if AT&T has a good network in your location. They're both AT&T network and have minor differences in plans.

samsung, master of bloatware

>>56205928
no, it was even worse
>>
>>56205928
what's always the problem with samsung and ram? is it that difficult to keep apps in the ram with 4 gigs of it? I have no idea how that stuff works.
>>
>>56206006
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwLj_el7-_w

watch this. Notice how the one plus 3 doesn't have to reload apps. meanwhile the samsung has too.
>>
>>56205903
Is it that fragile? I also got an Incipio silicone case as a bonus, will it do the job?
>>
>>56206017
But how can they fuck up so badly? The note 4 has 4 gb of ram, surely they can keep some apps stored in the ram for some time. Or is touchjizz such a huge resourcehog that it fucks everything up?
>>
>>56206038
>Or is touchjizz such a huge resourcehog that it fucks everything up?
Pretty much this tbqh. It's unfortunate because in every other aspect Sammy phones are the best
>>
>>56206038
*note 7, fuck man.

>>56206059
I was thinking about getting the s7, will stick to the new nexus phone instead most likely.
>>
>using package disabler pro
>now my daily ram usage highly decrease
Thank God, fuck Samsung with its unnecessary bloatware and service

Hopefully someone can help me out, I discovered non of xiaomi phones will work with US carriers (at least 4G) and I am really wanting to get a phablet, but I am on no contract plans atm (straight talk, which uses sprint network) Any recommendations for android phablet for around 200 price range? I am not oppose to switch to other carriers (net10, AT&T, walmart family mobile, T-Mobile) I currently have Samsung Galaxy S5, and would just like a bigger screen.
>>
>>56206136
spoonfeed me on this. I've heard people are using this app to disable some bloat. What services can I disable safely?

it costs money

Any other cons, mr. dubs?
>>
>>56207089
small battery which will last you through a day, not on heavy use though, no updates after 2 years, no removable battery, no msd card slot.

good camera though, no idea about the rest.
>>
I want a new phone but everyone here has convinced me to jot get the note 7. Should I look into the Moto g force?
>>
So what's the catch with t-mobile one?

Europoor here.
100 eur to spend (second hand is fine). Need it quick.

All I care about is battery life and reliability. No gaming, watching 4k video or some shit. Will be used mostly for maps, fb, gmail and google searches. I don't want it crashing randomly like chink phones.

Unused second hand Moto G3 1gb ram version for 100eur?

Used S4 for 120eur?

Unused second hand LG Nexus 5 for 130eur?
>>
note 4 or a9 ? or wait another year when they will relase new batteries?

Have a iPhone 5 now, the one without a fingerprint scanner, and it is literally cancer.

Thinking about getting the Redmi Note 3 Pro, should i wait for the next one to get released, or should i just buy it now? How much faster than my iPhone will it be?
>>
>>56203036
Just get her note 7 dammit. Let her choose her Samsung and you stick your ass with your nexus. Get what she's comfortable with and ve done with it.

Is there any system setting that might prevent Clover from updating while my phone is locked? It doesn't refresh threads until I unlock it and check manually which kinda defeats the purpose of having a watcher.

Does anyone know how to keep smartphone batteries from going to shit after a couple of months? I don't even use this phone that much but the battery already drains really fast.

Managed to drown my two-year old HTC m8 in a pool last night, which is a shame as i was in love with it and kept it in perfect condition. Im in the market for a new phone right now and find it hard to choose between the HTC 10 and Samsung S7 edge. I love the true black that samsung has to offer, and yet the phone appears awkward to hold. I primarily used the M8 for youtube, internet browsing , listening to music on headphones. Not too big on taking pictures (hence why i dont give a shit about the camera too much). Can someone help me out?
>>
>>56208372

>>
>>56208369
This is the number one reason I think phones need to be replaced after a year. No way to prevent it. That and slow down, bugginess, and being out of warranty (and phones are so fragile).
>>
Any of you guys have a preferred controller for use with the Gear VR?
>>
>>56208478
Yeah it really blows. I keep buying these new shitty smartphones which I don't even really like just because the battery becomes so bad after a couple of months. Like when I'm using one phone, it drains from 35% to 1% in a matter of 2 minutes, seriously. I've just given up on phones with non removable batteries, next phone I'm gonna get is gonna have removable battery, don't care if it costs $1000, all of these smartphones I've been buying because of bad batteries cost well over that anyway.
>>
Note 4 here. I've had this phone for almost two years now and battery life is fucking abysmal. I have 3 different batteries that I have to rotate through each day. I cleared system cache and Uninstalled a bunch of apps. Is there anything else I can do or am I just going to need to upgrade soon? Standby takes away about 30% per hour and it dies after about an hour of use. Also, on two of my batteries, the phone will shut off randomly between 1-25% battery remaining. then it just stays in a constant state of rebooting.

Does the HTC 10 have an actual black colour variant and not some "carbon-grey" bullshit? Im talking about something in the lines of the s7 black.

>>
>>56195219
>I don't know why anyone would buy it, when there is OP3 for 400 bucks
Decent DAC and AMP, and SD card expansion slot. Too bad the battery is not replaceable.

HTC is 999AUD (673.50€) here, whereas S7 edge is 1249AUD (841.59€). Daylight robbery but that is always the case with electronics down under.

As they always say, a day late and a dollar more (if only).

I also own a note 4.
Try replacing your battery with a fibatec battery. They are expensive [30€] but have top notch battery life. Also disable fast charging, it fucks up battery life. Sadly I'm still running Android 5.1 because my provider doesn't give a fuck. I had it rooted but missed the pen functions.

Are you female. If not then go for a dark phone. White phones look grubby as fuck after a while. Most girls will pick a colour other than black in 90% if instances for no reason other than it isn't black. They also use horrible cases and copy celebrity purchases. Do that as well if you want.
>>
Seriously pondering getting a used Note 4 in a few months. Wouldn't exceed $200.
Is there anything that could overtake Note 4's price per performance?
Anything that could be worth getting used in a few months?
Using a 3-year old S3 and frankly a bit tired of it.

Can't turn off Binge On unless you pay them for HD video. Tethering is only at 2G speeds unless you pay them more money.

General hard cases. You can find decent ones for most any phone for about $20 on amazon or ebay.

Hi America Midwest here. I am currently Verizon and it's fucking terrivle. I use them because that's my parents used. I have an LG G4. It has a spot for a Verizon sim and micro sd I believe.

What are my other options for carriers because I'm going to fucking kill myself.
