so i have a monitor that supports vga / dvi only and a gpu that supports hdmi / dvi only

i bought a hdmi-vga adaptor connecting my monitor -> vga cable -> adaptor -> hdmi port on my computer, nothing registers.

so the question is, only a div cable would work in this case right?

Why in fucks name would you use HDMI to VGA when you have DVI? Waste of money on a converter, go out and buy a DVI cable.
