This is misinformation. First when you root your device, you stop getting ota Android updates. That one of the biggest reasons why people un-rooted their phones in the first place.

Finally the truth is that Android users don't upgrade their phones as much as IOS users do. Fragmentation was all because of the fact Kitkat/Lollipop/Gingerbread were fine with their devices. After all, they are too "poor" to do so.
