What is a "real time kernel" /g/? Google doesn't really explain what it does/what it's used for.
Is there any point using it for desktop/gaming use?

If you need to do very low latency shit you would use real time.
If you have to ask what it is you don't want it.
Also no if you just use a regular desktop environment and want to play games its actually detrimental to that.
You end up with fucked up audio and worse performance.
