Within 20 years time, half of all jobs will be automated.
Either the government will pay them a weekly allowance for just existing(which wont happen because thats the commie way of doing things) , or youll be forced to support your children through adulthood by your 401k/Superannuation/investments that will be the only thing would be making money once most jobs are automated. So why even entertain the idea of having kids if youre in your 20s?
>>
>>56160945
skilled jobs have a 1% chance of being automated in the next 20 years, whereas retail and such jobs have like a 70+% chance (may be more)

Google the source yourself. The "skilled job" used in the example was an RN

They will tax the robots as if they were people to pay for future autist's neetbux to play vidya
>>
>>56161100
Actually low tier white collar work(that employs a majority of plebs) will be most affected, whilst work that involve movong your hands like mechanics, traidies, will be the last to be automatied, since robotics have been lagging behing cognitive level 1 and 2 AI

Genuinely terrified to be fucking honest, senpai.
I mean, I'm happy that I fell for the CS meme, but things are gonna be fucked up for a while in the near future.
I can already imagine all the shitflinging that'll result from automating jobs.
On one hand, you'll have the recently laid off who'll protest this shit, and on the other hand, you'll have the bourgeois that can afford to automate their labour.
Small business is gonna go down cause it'll become expensive to maintain, corporations are gonna be more monopolistic without government intervention.
And since labour is cheap, prices will be cheap, and since prices will be cheap, the rest of our wages will go down.
All the while, the companies will try and find ways to milk money out of you, by selling your buying habits, your health data, your social views, etc.
Jesus Christ, I'm scared. Hold me bros.

Or maybe I'm wrong and way off, and that'll be a good thing.
>>
These easy to produce meatbags are going to continue to be the cheapest source of labor. I can't wait for minimum wage to be abolished.

You're all fucking stupid. You can't automate everything in a few years. This shit will take time and by the time robots can replace neurosurgeons and architects then there will be no more human beings on earth.

You all make the fatal mistake of assuming that machines will never become self aware and fucking kill every human on earth. Fact is we will be competition to machines ones they become self aware and the only solution is complete and total annihilation of your competition.

tl;dr you're all fucked when machines become self aware, they will be your destruction not your slaves.
>>
Even if you keep your job you'll still have to compete with vastly numbers of highly skilled people who've been automated out of other jobs.

Wages are gonna come down hard.

Only augmentations will happen, period.
>>
>>56161560
It can and it will. Give it enough intelligence and eventually you'll give it the ability to become self aware and conscious.

There's nothing we can do to stop this. In fact we'll probably accelerate this occurrence for teh lulz. Sooner or later that nao robot is going to show up in your room with a fucking knife and murder you in your sleep.

Dentists jobs will probably go once we are able to create precise and nimble actuators for synthetic muscles. Some say graphene and Carbon nanotubes will be needed to make this happen,so within 25 years, I think it would be possible to create robotic arms that will eventually be used in Dental robots. Machine vision+ AI +CNT actuators = Dentists and Doctor robots. Machine vision is going to through a boom, which is why radiology will be automated within 10 years. Dentists have max 30 years left before theyre also automated

One kind of job disappears, but working never does. The Luddites thought industrialization would render 50% or more of the population unemployed, but all that happened was a shift in the field of work. Yes, production began to require a lot less people because of factories, but constructing and maintaining factory machines suddenly opened up new fields of expertise and new jobs.

So this Venus project type utopia where machines do 100% of everything will simply never come to pass. Machines still need maintenance and direction.

Only the working class gets butthurt about machines doing work. Who wouldn't want a machine doing work for them? The working class, working is their culture.

But regardless, the newest industries are getting rapidly more complicated and are fragmenting too. It's the stupidly simply stuff like "driving" that gets no love.

yeah, tons of ""jobs"" are going to get automated in the coming years.

But was it a sustained unemployment society-wide? No. These people died jobless because they were too lazy to learn new qualifications and join the workforce doing something else.
>>
>>56163058
some places literally have laws in effect just to create more jobs, e.g. making it illegal to pump your own gas, making it illegal to park on a street past 5pm, making it illegal to fix your own shit

and besides, many, many jobs are like >>56163600 where work has literally been created. it's called make-work and it doesn't affect productivity.

>>
Capitalism is built on unlimited growth.

Too much automation will require more and more welfare, which will limit that growth and even negate it.
It has to be kept within a certain percentage to be maintainable.
Some jobs can and do die, but other jobs are usually created as a result.
Doing this too quickly will actually be detrimental as you kill off too many jobs and leave a huge group of people unable to work.

Although, humans as a species are lucky at this present time because we are already beginning space mining missions.
There has been active research in space for platforms and scouting satellites.
Within 50 years, we will start to see the benefits of this space mining at the society level.
100 years in, everything could be automated because we will have the resources for "infinite" growth.
Capitalism, however, will probably die anyway.
lol

>>56164295
>muh moores law
Silicon is on its way out anyway.
There are 3 replacement materials I know of, and a few others I don't know much of that look promising.
Moores law is a fucking worthless metric, stop using that stupid shit. It isn't a law, it was a fun observation that has gotten tiring to see being constantly referred to.

Computers aren't even remotely like brains because they are in-order calculators.
The brain doesn't work like that. It is massively parallel and complex behaviour comes about from said parallel structure.
Complex behaviour is a massive calculation of multiple facets that eventually lead to a "winning" behaviour, which is what ends up being expressed as muscle movements, or whatever else.

Computers won't get to the complexity of brains until we get rid of the concept of single-threadedness.
The brain certainly doesn't operate like that.

Of course, saying the brain is the absolute best a computational device can be is hilarious.
The brain is a horrible construct. It is limited by evolution and environment. It is horribly fucking redundant, and its plasticity is only really an advantage in the wild. Software plasticity is far superior.
We aren't in the wild any more.
We don't have energy limits.
We don't have a billion years of evolution fucking with us.
We don't have 200+ cell types, all of which can fail at random.
Computers CAN go well above and beyond what brains are capable of.
But only if we stop programming computers the way we do now and embrace the competition model.
Only then will we actually be able to make good brain-computers.
>>
>>56163681
Uber has shown that disruptive technologies can survive and defeat government regulations. You think governments want to destroy a major source of their revenue (Taxi Licenses cost half a million here). Governments are now being controlled private sector. Perhaps this was the case 20 years ago, but now governments rarely go against business interests. Americans sealed their future when they destroyed unions.
>>
Automation of the workforce is the obvious result of industrial capitalism. In order to maximize profits, you should ideally reduce costs. The cost of living, however, is not controllable by corporations and corporations are expected to pay their workers an amount that allows said workers to survive according to the cost of living. Automation of the workforce results in a faster and cheaper workforce.

But you will not find many mom and pop shops with automated workforces. At least, not often. By then the big box stores would have utterly wiped out downtown businesses and this thing people call "small business."

It should be noted that we don't have a human population problem. We aren't overpopulated. The issue with human population is distributing food, water and services. The only reason that we have a distribution problem is the fact that ending world hunger would not be profitable. Just in the same sense that avoiding automation would not be profitable. Similar to how millions of tonnes of ""excess"" food rot each week, many bottom-feeding humans will rot in an automated society.

But the question that I ask myself is whether or not Capitalism will survive long enough to achieve total automation of the workforce. The fact is, this economic system is built off the assumption that there are unlimited resources. But we live on a planet with finite resources and here we are throwing phones into the dump with gold, copper, and plastic components. The amount of arable land is decreasing too with increased droughts and with water levels rising.
>>
>>56164512
Oh. Well, New York has at least one thing right.
>>
Just tax the robots.
>>
>>56164627
>Computers won't get to the complexity of brains
They don't need to. We won't need complex AI that are as wise as Socrates. The workforce will take ones that are designed for simple tasks and that will be enough.
>>
>>56164627

Silicon will be replaced by Graphene/CNT 3D integrated chips in the longterm, which will promise 1000x improvements.

http://news.stanford.edu/2015/12/09/n3xt-computing-structure-120915/

In the short term, we will exploring other substrates like Germanium. Silicon will becpme obsolete, just like vaccuum tubes.
>>
>>56164706
Exactly.
People think we need super deep learning and absolute 1:1 simulation of a human.

We don't _need_ it, it would be neat, but we can massively improve on discrete regions of the brain, such as image recognition, pattern matching and such.
Hell, there was a group just there that created a neat algorithm to look for "poverty" signs through map data. It managed to find things even they never knew about.

Most things our brains do are simply not needed for a purely computational device.
Our brains have a shitload of in-built limits, energy limits, size limits, and oversight of bodily functions a computer won't have.
Eliminating that can shrink a human brains pure computational power to well under half its size, if not further.
Most of it simply isn't needed.
We are only just beginning to figure out how efficient evolution has been at shrinking brains in to small sizes, like recently when we scanned some bird and insect brains that exhibit complex behaviours.
The density of their brains is far far higher than the average brain. (and most of that is still unneeded because it is speedy pattern recognition for high-speed flight)

Honestly, if anyone wants a career to get in to, get in to dat fucking AI field.
AI is going to explode in the coming decades.
Mechatronics as well. (love that word)
All these automation fields will require a workforce, may as well get in early, even if it means having a slightly shitty job for a few years until it grows.
>>
>>56164723
There was another one I remember reading about recently.

Oh, platinum and tin.
I guess we will save that one for when we have a stable space mining society.

If the government cant even close Tax havens and Tax evading schemes which has meant most major companies dont pay their fair share of Tax, how do you think they can impose a new Tax on companies that use automation?
>>
I personally can't see how it won't become a living wage system.

Corporations will run out of ways to squeeze money out of the (previously) working masses. If anything, I bet most companies and corps are salivating at the mouth at the idea of consumers having unlimited time and all their funds going into expenses with 0 reason to invest/save.

That's just me though. I just think a capitalist society would see little profit in completely hanging the lower class out to dry. Why not drip feed them money and turn them into perpetual spenders ala Brave New World

Huxley was ahead of his time.
>>
So what happens when all the wage slaves are automated out of a job and are suddenly unable to purchase things?

All those super efficient super automated companies suddenly have zero fucking sales and go bankrupt.

Nice going.
>>
>>56166241
With the current capitalist system, it is clear that it's leading us into a brick wall at high velocity. We need a more sensible approach to the economy and get out of this consumption treadmill and ever higher GDP for we have finite resources:

- space mining isn't happening any time soon and thus post-scarcity is a long, long way off if ever
- the issue of climate change is now getting ever more pressing
- huge migrations of people are already happening
- all the chinks and poos and south east asians and africans want to pollute as much as the westerners did

Things could get ugly really quick.

Basically we need to cooperate and stabilize societies around the world to be more sustainable instead of declaring war and invading countries like Dubya did. But that's not economically profitable in the short-term :)

Meh, i dont think the think the thord world will ever pollute as much as industrialised western nations, purely on the fact that we dont have much cheap fossil fuels left and renewable technologies like Solar are becoming very competitive when compared to coal. Not to mention many are predicting that many of these densely populatied developing countries will deindustrialise as a result of Automation which will bring the production of goods and factories closer to the main market aka the west and east Asia.

My job could technically be automated to a certain extent (skilled trade, it really doesn't matter which one its applicable for all), but every machine would still need an operator present for a variety of reasons mostly related to safety. I actually welcome it as much as possible for this very reason, I'll just get paid more to do less, with increased production being the payoff for the company.

I still don't think total automation will be feasible for a variety of skilled trades for an extremely long time.
