So, guys, starting september-october I need a windows laptop. I read about pascal architecture graphics cards, which are supposed to be the shit and I think i'm gonna wait to get the new thinkpad t4xx which should have it.
I know you guys are all over the T420, but it might be a bit too slow in the long run. Nevertheless, I was thinking of getting one and using it for some time until the new one comes out and I can buy it.
do you think the i7 with the nvidia graphics card will run solidworks? Should I upgrade the ram to 8 gigs? what about an ssd? I'm not much of a gamer, I might play some half life or CS, so I don't think I'll need to worry about that

what
plug 3 ssds on it if you want to go fast and sandy bridge probably it's still going to be relevant in 2020.

Get a w520 or w530(stronger but chiclet keyboard) ,so it will run everything for a long time

yep, I won't be programming on it so I don't care that much about muh keyboard. I can't find any locally, though. Is the 420 really not powerful enough for solidworks?

Take a look at ebay.
You'll have the laptop for a long time, so why wouldn't you buy a laptop with a quad core i7 and dedicated graphics (w520-w530) instead of a measly dual core i7-i5 and no graphics/weak graphics(t420-t430) ?
