Would it be worth it to buy a new screen/cheap SSD for a netbook I have lying around? Thinking of putting Linux on it and using it for web browsing. It should cost around 40 dollars altogether.

As long as your netbook has decent battery life, sure. It would be pointless to only be able to use it while plugged in.

From what I remember, yeah, the battery's in pretty good shape.
if you're going to get a netbook get the acer aspire one zg5, it's hackintosh compatible, comes with a built-in 3G card and also fuck you
absolutely not.
Netbooks barely even work for browsing. Just get an 11 inch laptop or a phone

probably not, and in that case you are better off getting a used laptop for 100 than wasting money on this.

Fuck it bro just go for it.

Of course, especially since the low amount of RAM means it's easier to hit the pagefile, an SSD can make quite a difference compared to a 5400RPM or possibly even 4200RPM HDD that your netbook has

It's not the best use of your money. But if you get a flash-drive-tier chinese ssd and a parts bin working screen for next to nothing, it'd be a fun little project.
t. Acer Aspire owner, 1024x600, 2GB RAM, 32GB chink ssd, with Debian though it basically just collects dust.

netbooks are quite fine, but i would go with a minimal distro like Lubuntu, Bodhi, or even TinyCore if you wanna make it a bit more custom with the applications and executables etc you want on it. TinyCore with Wifi is the one you wanna work with, and is good for not having bloat like other distros can, saving you space on that SSD

Unless yours is one of the last models sold, no. Those single/dual core atoms are shit, their gpu even more shit you better spent those $40 buying a cheap tablet that would be faster than it.
