Is Asus VG248QE 144hz really that bad? I just want a decent monitor

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Is Asus VG248QE 144hz really that bad? I just want a decent monitor for 250 euros, help me out /g/
>>
i like mine
>>
I got two of those. One of them likes to freeze in standby mode sometimes when it turns back on after idling (won't even turn off when I press the button), so I have to unplug the power and back in.
>>
Love it and would not go back to 60hz peasantry
>>
Bought mine a few months ago and it works like a dream, seriously great monitor for the cost
>>
>>56124751
Have mine for almost 4 years. Still works like a charm. Make sure to download the ICC profile for it.
>>
>>56124751
>really that bad?
The only people who have ever said it's bad are 60 Hz IPS-shitters. I love mine, had it for a year+ now.
>>
>>56124751
Don't buy an ASUS monitor. My experience has been bad so far. Decent monitors aren't cheap. Get a Dell ultrasharp, it's worth it's money.
>>
>>56124751
Any suggestion what monitor should i get for graphic designing and gaming?
>>
>>56125112
How much are you looking to spend?

Stay away from samsung, their QA is shit. Buying a samsung screen is like playing the lottery.
>>
I don't know that particular monitor but I own another 144 Hz monitor (LG 24GM77) and if the quality is good with the Asus monitor you can't go wrong with a high refresh rate monitor.
>>
Why would you need a high refresh monitor? Isn't 60Hz enough?
>>
is flicker-free just a shill buzzword?
>>
It's not terrible. It's main downside is the PWM driven backlight. Not something I'd stare at all day.

The colors are shit, but every single of these 24'' "144hz" (they are actually 120hz panels that can be overclocked) panels are actually the same model. Given enough time, you should be able to calibrate them to look roughly the same.

Differences emerge in overdrive implementation (ASUS is very good in this regard) and extra features. BenQ's strobing is very impressive for example.

Why do you think it's your job to fuck over people from good performance all the time? What's he gonna use to run ~100 FPS at 1440p? A fucking NASA supercomputer?
>>
>>56125731
>What's he gonna use to run ~100 FPS at 1440p? A fucking NASA supercomputer?
No, because supercomputers are used for real work. Gaymes go on a different board or website.

If we're lucky, both OP and you will strangle yourselves with the power cord to these gaymer monitors.
>>
>>56125783
3D is real work. If the graphics card is not strong enough they'll fuck themselves if they buy 1440p.
>>
>>56125731
A gtx 1080 will run 1440p just fine, poorfag.
>>
>>56125731
Also, why the fuck do you people immediately mention stupid vidya when somebody is asking for a monitor. Not everyone plays that shit.
>>
>>56125800
3D modelers don't buy gaymer 144Hz TN panel asus garbage.
>>
>>56125783

At some point, you've mistaken 4chan for a place where people do "real work".

What's this "real work" you're doing, anon? Reinstalling gentoo all day? Ricing your arch? Whoring yourself out on various tumblr-tier desktop, battlestation and wallpaper generals?

"real work" -- listen to this guy. How old are you, grasshopper? Awfully proud of no longer being a child, much like any 20-something arrogant little piece of shit who thinks he's got God by the balls because he graduated from high school.

Please God, holy shit, stop the cringe.
>>
>>56125819
We are talking about resolutions, not refresh rate, friendo.
>>
>>56125814
>I just want a decent monitor for 250 euros, help me out /g/

The difference between me and you is that I understand what OP wants and why he wants it. Stop recommending asinine shit. He likely just wants to play Overwatch on a mid tier gaming build. A 1080p TN panel is a great solution for something like this.
>>
>>56125820
>What's this "real work"
stopped reading your shitpost here.

"real work" is anything other than gaymes. even a furry porn art using photoshop is "real work."

>>56125834
1440p isn't an issue if gaymes aren't going to be played.
>>
>>56125847

Stop posting. You're not impressing anybody. Go to a furry porn art board.
>>
>>56125864
Fuck off and delete your thread, OP.
It belongs on /v/ or reddit.
>>
>>56125847
Let's be real. If someone asked you the best video editing software to make their furry porn art in, your reaction to that would likely be the same if not worse than if they asked you the best monitor to play video games and you would probably have less respect for the furry and how he chooses to utilize his computer. That is unless you are a furry, which is the only conclusion I can come to based upon your bullshit post.
>>
>>56125887
>If someone asked you the best video editing software to make their furry porn art in, your reaction to that would likely be the same if not worse than if they asked you the best monitor to play video games and you would probably have less respect for the furry and how he chooses to utilize his computer
Depends entirely on where the furry is asking what the best software is for creating their furry porn. If I was browsing /fur/ I wouldn't have an issue with it.

>>

Bullshit.

Here's the facts: 144Hz monitors are almost exclusively used for games. Do you know what else is almost exclusively used for games? Consoles, controllers, etc. Where do you think you post about consoles and controllers?

Goes on /v/.
>gayming components (GPU threads)
Goes on /v/ unless it's a thread about workstation cards.

Its good if all you want is 144hz 1ms response, the colors are trash, but its great for the price if all you're doing is gayming.

I don't want to silence it. All of /v/ can be graphics cards threads if that's what people deem enjoyable or worthy of discussing over there. I simply want certain topics moved to their rightful boards.

Is console hardware discussed on /g/ or /v/?
>/v/
Are cameras discussed on /g/ or /p/?
>/p/
Are cooking instruments discussed on /g/ or /ck/?
>/ck/
Is fitness equipment discussed on /g/ or /fit/?

The cards the GPU threads discuss are the gaymer cards like the 480 or 1080. That goes on /v/. Because it has a nearly singular purpose: videogames.

It's perfectly fine if someone wants to start a thread discussing that AMD card they recently made where they put a 1TB SSD on a workstation card on /g/.

I've had one for a little over a year. I got it on sale for $220. Never had any problems with it. Though, you'll want to have a good headset or speaker setup because the build in speakers are trash obviously.

Totally worth it if you're just using it for gaming. I'd hate to stare at it all day for work, but for gaming it's pretty damn alright. Best 144hz gaming monitor for the price imo.

BenQ is good too.
>>
>>56126543

While the BenQ is flicker free and has the amazing, fully customizable strobing feature which is better than the lightboost on ASUS, it has two problems:

- Worse overdrive implementation. Not many options. Just harsh and harsher.

- No displayport which makes it useless in a few years.

XL2430t is the current BenQ 24'' 144hz 1080p TN.

No OP, it's the best bang for buck you can get for what the monitor offers. It's just not the prettiest in terms of colors. If you want a high refresh rate with awesome colors, you are going to have to pay a high cost.

It all depends what you want in a monitor when it comes to the lower cost.

Get a warranty ALWAYS! Don't cheap out on that extra 2 or 4 years cost.

>Colors are a bit off

Just google the updated color profiles. There are 2 different ones for AMD and nvidia.

As I said, it's horrible if not calibrated properly.
>>
It looks like shit compared to a ips monitor. I've owned 144hz 1080p tn a 1080p ips 60hz ultrasharp, then got a 1440p 60hz ips (u2515h) and recently got rid of it and got a 1440p ips 144hz Asus mg279q.

The first one got stuck pixels from top to bottom in the middle of the screen, and the replacement that I got has a dead one in the lower right corner coupled with insane backlight bleed that's really uneven so I have light spots in some parts of the screen in dark scenes.

I hope the 3rs will be better else I'm just getting a Dell again.

I do like the look of the BenQ 27" thats 2560x1440 and 144hz but do I need IPS for a good gaming experience or is TN good enough?
>>
>>56127223

You would need an active adapter and those things cost so fucking much that they cover the price difference between a XL2411z and the XL2430t.

Also, it's up for debate whether they add input lag because nobody bothered to test it.
>>
It changed a lot.

144hz TN panels are still where it's at for maximum performance and minimal input lag.

There are high refresh rate IPS and VA panels now, but they can't quite match the performance of a TN panel so they're a luxury item for people who really enjoy single player games.

Strobing has improved a lot since lightboost but it's still very problematic, making tearing more obvious and of course, you still have to deal with crosstalk. BenQ lead the way here simply because they let you tweak how the strobe behaves. So if you're not a mental retard and know how to browse blurbusters forums, you can get something very impressive. Not quite CRT motion quality, but very close.
>>

Also, One DVI port on the graphic card runs one BIOS, the other runs another.
If you run both in DVI that can be the reason.
Use the same bios for both monitors, so check which ports run which bios.

enjoy spending top dollar for the future 720p

1440p will be what poor fag television will be using
>>
Hijacking the thread and asking for thought about buying slightly used monitors.
>>
>>56124751
It's good. The picture isn't great, but what do you expect for a TN panel. If you want 144hz on the cheap, go for it.
>>
>>56138326
Fine if you are that poor
>>
OP if you buy that monitor I will kill you

Everyone ITT recommending it, your bloodline should be eradicated. None of you know shit about anything if you're suggesting a fucking PWM monitor from 2013. there are infinitely better monitors out there and if you buy one in THE CURRENT YEAR I will find out where you live and cancel the order then cancel your dog's life. FUCK you retards who know shit all and just parrot back whatever outdated and flat out wrong shit you read on logical increments. I hate all of you tech illiterate retarded faggots that even dare post like you have any sort of knowledge

just get a ViewSonic xg2401 if you're budget is $250, but for the love of FUCKING CHRIST dont get this stupid shitty Asus monitor that every brain-dead mongo shitter suggests because he looked at the cheapest options on logicalincrements

FUCK

I like that purple look, not that I own the monitor, but it would make me feel great in the dark, regardless if I'm gaming or browsing it just feels kinky.

IPS or gtfo
>>
>>56142110
I'd rather wait for OLED
>>
not sure if this fits here, but oh well:

looking to buy a new 1080p monitor. 1440p is too expensive for me. thinking about 150 yurodollars.

where should I put my preferences? 75hz? maybe an ultrawide? is 1080p too little resolution for 27"? I have options on each of those categories.

Mate, even I have a job in tech and I am studying Law and have a Statistics degree.

I've never heard anyone say anything bad about it.
I got mine about 8 months ago. No issues like excessive light bleeding, dead pixels, etc. so far.
Going from 60Hz to 144Hz is awesome (I mostly play BF4) and 24" is a pretty sweet spot for 1080p.
I also have a Dell U2412M for editing pictures in Lightroom, so I've got both a nice TN and a nice IPS monitor.
>>
>not flicker free

Lmao no.
>>
>all these people saying 144hz is a meme

Higher refresh rate -> better for your eyes. People suffering from motion sickness or computer vision syndrome are often recommended to use higher refresh rates.

tl;dr : higher refresh rates = better
>>
>>56124751
It's great. I've had mine for about 4 years.
>>
>>56129095
IPS + 120 Hz Monitor is the only way to go, you get the best of both worlds as each monitor does one thing, and does it well.
UNIX Philosophy wins.
>>
What's the cheapest IPS 120/144 GSYNC monitor available right now?
>>
>>56145974
>tl;dr

fuck off, reddit
>>
>>56124751
It is pretty must the best esports monitor out there (extremely fast response time even compared to other 1ms 144hz monitors) but the colors are shit.
>>
>>56150685
TN panels will always be shit. The new breed of IPS 144hz panels are amazing. Very low lag and fantastic colors
>>
>>56150795
OLED will be better.

Literally 0.1 ms response time.
>>
>>56124751
>somebody said it was bad
Mate it's a perfectly fine moniter, if it has the specs you want, get it.
>>
>>56151340
It's not bad. It's ancient and there are better picks today, there's no point in buying it unless you're really short on money
>>
Can anyone tell me how long it takes to get used to LCD (sample-and-hold) motion blur? I got rid of my yellowing and ghosting CRTs and got a MG279Q. I'm getting a bit of a headache from this shit.

I'm getting a bit of a headache from this shit.

Why?
>>
Don't wanna make a new thread but since my question is related somewhat to OP's I figured I'll ask here.

Is there a 1080p 144hz IPS monitor? I've been looking around and I can't seem to find one.
>>
>>56150819
>.1ms response time
Anything under 8-11ms is unnoticeable for anyone but fighter pilots.
>>
>>56125098
I have had nothing but good things with ASUS monitors. VG247Q for gaming, and a PA249 when I was doing my university course last year. Sorry you had to have a pain with them though, hate it when you have to return hardware for weeks (looking at you Corsair).

sauce on that wallpaper, friend?
>>
>>56136836
Got it, 3 dead pixels total and BLB / glow is not bad at all. Even in pure blacks not really noticeable. Absolutely love it.

Only thing I'd wish is to be able to set the sharpness in the most color-accurate mode (racing). 1 setting higher and it'd be perfect.
>>
>>56124751
idk about the prices in your country, but here I can get a 24gm77 for the same price

Have you tried this? It has direct access to the OSD of the screen and sometimes shows hidden options - for me it showed a sharpness option that the screen's OSD doesn't have
