I had a purism. The OEM is Topstar. They've been sold for a wihle in the UK by white box reseller PCSpecialist. I had a 13 inch model.

It was the worst fucking laptop I've ever owned.

The build quality is chink shit cheap. The motherboard had next to no shielding on it, so that if you're listening to music with headphones, or have speakers plugged in, the interference with internal components when they're working is horrific. The battery life was terrible. The trackpad was some no name chink trackpad so the "multitouch" only worked with windows drivers and you only got the most basic of functionality on Linux because no drivers existed. Then after a few months of my screen flickering.... it died.

Like I said, worst fucking laptop I've ever owned. And I've owned many since I started using them in the late 90s. The fact Purism is selling it for the price they are is ass raping, when you can buy a basic version in the UK for about £500 without windows and throw Linux on it yourself. Which is about $650. And I really don't know what grounds they're standing on about privacy in every chip or whatever bullshit their tagline is. They're using the same components any other white box company uses or anyone can buy themselves. The only thing unique to the Purism over what PCSpecialist is selling or anyone else can buy is physical kill switches. And I really don't think that justifies a nearly 800 dollar markup.

Additional note: An absolute base model with an i3 in the UK, without windows, can be had for £420, i5 for £472 and i7 for £552. You can then pick and choose your components based on what you're wanting to spend, or you can buy them yourself from elsewhere for cheaper and install them yourself.
