Yes... the only phones with better headphone output are the HTC 10 and LG V10, and you aren't likely to notice the difference unless you have some very good car audio. Anything with SD820 will sound better than your S4 Mini. The Note 7 uses the new Qualcomm codec so it should sound better than the S7 or S7e, though.

Had to give up my redmi3, it just wasn't very comfortable to hold and the gps was shit, otherwise great value.

Anyway, moved on to a samsung A3 2016, for smaller screen, oled, hardware buttons and it's pretty nice despite the reduction in battery life.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone else things android 5+ settings menus are now shit, the xiaomi settings at least you could customise what the front buttons did on touch and hold, but there's nothing on the A3.

There's also modern vibrate motors always feeling a bit shit for good haptic feedback. My old sgs3 had a nice snappy response where you could set it to low vibrate time comfortably. But on these newer phones they feel like they need to vibrate for longer or they just sort of do nothing or blunder, is that just not having a flagship phone anymore problem?

Currently have a Note 4. Bought it because it had amazing specs, a removable battery, SD card slot, and a nice screen.

Most people ARE tech illiterate. For the large majority of cellphone users, the saleswoman at their carrier store sets up Touch ID and iCloud (or whatever) for them and they use their phone that way.
