Does /g/ use a messaging app?
What's your favorite and is that the one you use?
Atm I'm using kikebook messenger because that's the one everyone I know uses. It's one of the very few reasons I still use kikebook.
It's a clunky and heavy app, not a big fan.
Telegram seems interesting and well put together but it doesn't have many users.
It has a lot of users, just most of them aren't American
Slack, because work
It's a shitty web3.0++ IRC with plugin 'apps'
I prefer xmpp, because it's not tied to a service or a client.

100m aren't many users in a messaging app specially if you take in consideration that kikebook and WhatsApp have nearly 10x that.
I'm not in the us and nobody here uses it.

>compared to the most popular social media service for the past decade or so this other platform doesn't have as many people

I use telegram. It's comfy.

There are other platforms that have far more than 100m users.
Viber, Skype, wechat.
Kikebook and WhatsApp were only examples.
Textra for SMS
FB Messenger for everything else
