Does anyone still use makefiles?

I'm learning command line utilities for compilation but I imagine most of the programming world moves onto IDEs.

Hence my second question; comfiest IDE/comfiest text editor & compiler combo? Also specify what languages you use with them.

Makefiles are fine. The real cancer is GNU autoconf. It manages to obfuscate source so much to the point where it is unusable.
