Can we just start brainstorming all the security issues of Linux Mint?

I've heard they can't code C for shit, and they tend to do a lot of sketchy shit.

Sure, they don't offer kernel updates by default, but I know there's far worse than that.

I'm 100% sure you have never used Mint.

mint is great
regardless of the so called security issues and the slightly more bloat than other distros
mint > win10 any fucking day

Well, you'd be wrong, though I'm not proud of it.

I gave it a shot back in the day. All it seemed to offer over Ubuntu at the time was I guess the Mint menu and it installed codecs + java + flash by default. It enabled them in the browser and everything.

I guess I could add this to the list of bad ideas. There are metasploit exploits that work easily with the latest version of java. You get a pop up and all you have to do is click yes and you're infected. Java is a HORRIBLE thing to run in a browser. You're not supposed to have that much power in a browser plugin. Same goes for flash.

I heard ChrisLAS point out that every instance of Mint uses the same Firefox profile. They put it in the /etc/skel directory. Perhaps that's because they put their ads in Firefox? I don't know, but they used to do that. Key point, I'm pretty sure that profile is supposed to contain some randomized data for security reasons.

Right now I'm just calling all people smarter than me to trash on Linux Mint. I would love to see it.

There's some Mint bashing in this episode of Lunduke & Whatnot.

Psshhh, Mint is a great distro as long as you dont connect to the Internet.

You might be able to spoof md5 sums, but you probably don't have hidden hardware that connects to random servers...probably.

I would rather use FreeBSD, and they don't even have an ASLR implementation in their kernel!

Granted...FreeBSD doesn't use gcc, so in theory, maybe it does have some protection against memory allocation errors.
