I think, that the only real solution for good workstations/development systems, on Linux, is Intel's HD graphics. Why?

Because Intel makes the drivers themself. The i915 Intel driver gets tested and developed inside Intel.

Radeon is a hack from suggestions from AMD/ATI. Nouveau is an even bigger, reverse engineered mess. And i've found situations where Intel's graphics outperform AMD/Nvidia graphics in GNOME/KDE for example.

What is your experience with this?

Abandoning the Intel driver is actually encouraged in the Arch Wiki:
>Some recommend not installing the Intel driver, and instead falling back on the modesetting driver.

Every machine I've ever used with Intel graphics, the Linux drivers were poor. For example, streaking and tearing while watching HD video. In every case I've had to insert a NVidia graphics card to get good video on Linux.

I've never had an issue with IGPUS on Linux. Running OpenSUSE on the Surface Pro 3 is pretty much flawless besides the lack of multitouch with the typecover.
