If you're using Linux, SSDs really don't help that much. Linux is fast and it stays fast throughout years of use.

My boot time on Linux Mint went from 20+ seconds without an SSD to around 2-5 seconds with an SSD. I've never actually timed it, but after I got the SSD there was a massive noticeable improvement.
