There are plenty of small-businesses that can helped by organizing data and automating tasks using a Raspberry Pi. As you get a few customers, you would have already written a lot of reusable code that you can keep selling.
Why aren't you cashing in?

Partly because the type of person who wants to write code is not the type of person who wants to put himself out there to get jobs, or deal with the "pleebs" who hire him.
Also small businesses can't utilize it and big businesses don't want to fuck around with some dude who will leave them without support, and most likely shitty code.
It's better to buy the business, implement improvements, then sell it after revenue is up.
