Anyone have any tips on why my CPU runs so hot?
Have an Evo 212 Cooler and currently OCed to 4.6GHz. At load it's close to ~85C and when I boost to 4.7GHz it's hitting 100C and throttling.
Seems way too high for what it is

Did you refresh your thermal paste?
>i7
>4.6 GHz
>85C
Sounds about right.

Your clock is abit on the high side for a hyper 212.
Probably do-able though, I would say your thermal paste has some air pockets.

TPU shows the Evo at 81C. You are only 4C off, so your temps are normal.
212 +/Evo is an excellent budget cooler, but it does not perform miracles. An excellent budget cooler is still a budget cooler.

Alright that's good, I'll just sit at 4.6Ghz since any more risks baking the CPU.

Yeah I put it together just now but the cooler was a pain in the ass to put on so I must have developed air pockets or something in the paste. Too bad it's so frustrating to take it back off to reapply.

You will get used to it, I've owned a hyper 212 for a few years now and it gets easier.

Are you using linpack when testing? If so that will increase your temps quite a bit. I never saw my temps go over 60c using AIDA64. Granted I'm on a 6600K with a Vcore of 1.32v. Make sure your 212 doesn't move side to side, screws should be bottomed out.
