(Coffee isn't exactly technolo/g/, but it's relevant.)
I'm a programmer, and I'm trying to up my productivity with coffee. But it's not working. I either don't feel the caffeine, or I crash even when I drink it regularly.
What am I doing wrong? And when should I be drinking it? I usually (when I'm not being a lazy pig) get up at 05:30, and eat breakfast at around 06:00. I drink the equivalent of two cups in one, according to the tick marks on the pot.
Stop treating coffee like a pick-me-up meme drug, it's not.
It really only prevents you from falling asleep, it doesn't give you a buzz, or a jolt or whatever you're expecting.
Caffeine prevents drowsiness by blocking adenosine receptors in the brain, delaying the sleep cycle.
With regular usage, the brain becomes tolerant to caffeine by creating new adenosine receptors to compensate, meaning you will need MORE caffeine to keep up the same effect.
