Because a tablet or a phone is good enough for most people's computer needs. You don't need a custom built PC for Facebook, banking, porn, etc.

Because they don't need one. My brother mainly uses his phone for stuff, like paying the bills and maybe browsing the internet a bit. He has a laptop too but I don't know how much use it actually gets

People don't buy NEW computers anymore, since a five year old laptop can do anything besides muh gaymen.

Tablets are still a relatively new form factor so there are far less used/refurbished ones in good condition
