No, you can get both of those in the shell.
vi[m]/emacs/nano for text editor
mpd for audio

For that matter you can use a shell-based browser and use pdftk to yank text out of pdf's.

Those are separate programs, they are not the shell itself.

You might need to add some course specific software but otherwise that's the bulk of it, based on you counting shell programs as part of the terminal.
