S6 owner here.
Have had this phone about a year now, and before that I had a nexus 4 for 3 years.
Stock Android is smooth as butter compared to any flavor of TouchWiz on any Samsung device.
Samsung software isn't where it needs to be but they do make some fine chips and phones.
Samsung also makes some VERY heavy modifications to the Android OS they ship their devices on, especially on the performance/memory side of things.

So yes, anyone who claims that TouchWiz is smooth or can be smooth after animation and performance tweaks is a fucking shill.
Don't blame Android though.

People need to check their expectations here, they buy a $200-300 phone and then whine it runs like ass (and who knows wtf they installed on it) after a year.

've had my note 3 for several years now and only recently has it started to show its age, and while I could reset it or put CM on it, what really irks me about the phone is how poorly the camera does in low light situations which is why i am looking at a newer phone.

The s7 was a bit smoother than the s6. But it was still just as bad.
