several of these ones that you've circled are people asking for general advice (what kind of phone do you have/what kind of microphone should i buy/etc...)

if someone is actually shilling, you should be able to report these threads and trust that the obviousness of the shilling will get their posts removed and them banned.

also, some of these are "general" threads. the whole point of the shortcode (/wt/ etc...) is so that you can filter threads with that subject out. if you think the watch threads are 80% circlejerks for people who like the aesthetics of watches but are too autistic to go to another board like /fa/, then the filter can resolve that issue for you more quickly than therapy and anger management can.

but if you're too lazy to report these threads and you have nothing but bitching to offer, maybe you should stop browsing 4chan. diving into the ocean and moaning about how fish shit in it isn't sane.

/g/ is the containment board for all the shit that doesn't already have more specific communities, so you're not going to see a /tc/ to contain other stuff as well. there's a slightly higher chance that you'll see a successor to /prog/ but based on what we see on /g/ it's not clear that it would be much more than a LOT of shitty little threads where people were inexplicably too stupid or too impatient to google->stackOverflow.

the quality of the threads that would come out of the /dpt/ et al. being blown apart (so each person gets their own thread) would shoot through the floor, and people would stop going to that board, and then we'd be in the middle of /prog/ again.

there are rules against shilling. there's nothing saying that mods can't communicate with the board to explain why they do stuff. once upon a time, mods and even moot would come in here (occasionally) and post and shit.

i recently got banned for posting that the mods should have made another ban (unrelated to me) public rather than deleting the thread so we could discuss it. the rationale they gave for banning me was that i was complaining about the mods.

it's like an infinite loop of little/no feedback. we can't effectively signal what we want out of the board (whether the mods should care or not is up for debate, but it's worth pointing out that the debate would be a pointless one because we don't even have the means for it), but more importantly we have very, *very* few ways of figuring out if, how, and why mods have intervened. so we're wandering around in the dark wondering if we or anyone else has done something wrong at the borderline/gray areas.

like i don't particularly like watch threads. every time i see them they seem like they're mostly about the wristbands and watch faces. have mods seen the threads? do they approve of that kind of thread on /g/ (rather than /fa/ or something)? the answer to both is just "probably".

it's mind boggling that it's not a given that mods interact with the boards in a public capacity more often. the only explanation i can fathom is a corporate fear of being liable for something bad happening in another thread given the record that they posted on the board around that same time (e.g. if someone posts that they're going to burn down a school and mods are busy answering questions in another thread).
