Nothing really. My dislike of Apple stemmed from previous iPhones that had screens that were not only tiny, but also cracked after a single drop. It didn't help that they were (and still are) very expensive, and that the cheapest models only had 16GB and were still too pricey

Looking for a cheap, compact smartphone. My Galaxy Note 1 with Cyanogenmod 11 is in its death throes. I thought the big screen would be nice, but I only use it for podcasts, Whatsapp and Youtube, very very rarely for webbrowsing. My budget is around 100 Euro, so far I've looked at the Sony Xperia SP, LG Spirit and Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen. I don't want to compromise on the form factor, so 5" is already too big, 4.7" is on the edge. Which smartphone should I get?

I got Lumia 550 and my usecase is pretty similar to yours. I paid like 80 euros for mine, 4,7" 720p screen and LTE connectivity. Enough for me, it has all the apps I need(spotify, ssh, e-mail and whatsapp and facebook messenger to keep up with normie friends). Onedrive is okay for sharing the files and onenote works well enough for quick notes.

A repost, but I got answers for either the Axon 7 or OP3.
Any Canadian users have either? Any input in general?

///////////

Ok I've been struggling for months and I'm losing my mind. I just need a mid tier phone (preferably purchasable in Canada and non contract- but I can do US shipping to my friends) that can do the following:

>Typical social apps: Snapchat/Facebook/IG

>Whatsapp/Texts

>WiFi Spotify / YouTube

>Battery life over 4hrs SOT

>Multitasking to be decent (so minimum 2GB RAM?)

>No Gaming except for Pokemon GO at the moment

>Maximum $400 USD / $530 CAD

>MicroSD not necessary

>Decent phone speakers, not very important

I can have my phone shipped to the States if necessary (friend lives there) but I worry about warranty/repairs if the phone has problems here in Toronto so I'd rather not.

>>
>>55999746
Yup, that's really the downside of it, I guess. Like I said, my app/screen on use is pretty minimal so it works for me. And to be honest didn't even consider the redshift angle(even tough I run it on my computer anyway), and losing root acces of your phone is pretty big thing, yeah. You might also have some luck with chinkphones, even tough the most talked about models tend to be over 5" so I'm not too sure about are smaller phones rootable. >>

The price of the s7 dropped to around 500 bucks where I live and it looks really good + is top tier on every smartphone ranking.

>>
>>56000278
In their store*
>>
>>56000278
You could get the iPhone if you want to avoid all the headaches, stress and have an instant, great out of the box phone.

I wouldn't say it's similar considering the Note phones have been more consistent compared to the galaxy lines. I own the Note 4 and have a relatives that owns the 5. Both of ours hasn't slowed down at all for the past 1+ year of usage. Mine has a custom rom installed, his doesn't and it feels a lot noticeably faster than mine.

I've also heard great things about the One Plus 3. Great rom support + battery life as well so it's just a coin flip decided for you honestly.

The Note 7 probably won't have rom support for awhile if you're into that whereas you already have impressions you can read up on for the OP3.

One last thing I want to point out is when the Note 4 and 5 released they were consistently in the top 3 of everyone's list from a reviewers point of view so I'm confident that the Note 7 will be up there again.
>>
>>56000532
That sounds really good! I'm not that into Roms to be honest. I don't wanna harm the warranty and I'm too scared to brick the phone, so no Roms would not bother me.
Has touchwizz improved btw? Or is it still a giant mess like before. I think the only thing really holding me back is software support.
If Samsung would just care as much about their phones software as Apple did, they would he the perfect company I guess. Since tweaking on my own isn't really my thing I highly rely on them.

>nevertheless the giant screen is awesome
>wouldn't mind owning a phablet
>stylus could come in handy too

Man I love and I hate decisions. I love to read about every phone informing myself about everything, watching reviews and all the good stuff.
But actually deciding for one is horryifing since I don't want to end up making a mistake
>>
>>56000641
I was just watching a video on it. Apparently you can even write on the touchwiz with your pen when it's inches deep in water which is pretty funny lol.

Owning a phablet is awesome man, the Note 7 is apparently a tiny bit smaller than the iPhone 6+.

I'd suggest learning to tweak it one day! You can just install stock apps that could help minimize processes and what not and rooting and installing roms should not brick your phone is you just follow the instructions. XDA is great for all this and plenty of videos out there to walk you through.
>>
>>56000725
I should definetly check it out.. yeah.
I mean It can't be that hard.
Anyways thanks for all your help, Anon!
Once I get the phone (whichever it'll be) I'll write a review about it here to give you guys a quick overview from a very picky guy. I'm really favouring the note 7 now. One thing that I definetly have to give Samsung is that they really improved the looks of their phones!
Alright thanks for everything!

This is coming from an iPhone 6S user: do not get an iPhone, ever. It's the worst phone you could possibly own. I only got mine because I was curious about all the hype my friends were making. It turns out it's unusable without jailbreak which puts your data in grave danger and in the end still does not supplement an iPhone enough to be worth it as a usable phone imho.

Axon 7 has better speakers, but the software is a bit heavier than the OP3, and has decent battery.

OP3 has less speakers power and has an almost equivalent battery (maybe 20-40 minutes variance between them) and no mSD slot, but if you want any kind of root features at this point you should go for the OP3.

I've had no problem with my chinkshark at the moment, but a legit samsung or sandisk are always good, just never off ebay/chinese sites.

You can get a 64GB Samsung PRO card for around $30 if you need fast speeds, or a 128GB sandisk ultra for around $40 if you need bulk media.

Looking for a new phone to replace my old Note 2 with a budget of 300-400 eurollars.

Must have features:
>large AMOLED screen, no pen
>32GB+ (or 16GB with MicroSD)
>3GB+ RAM
>good audio quality with headphones
>stock or not, will replace with custom ROM
My typical app usage, with some multitasking:
>heavy video/audio usage (no youtube)
>heavy web browsing
>Discord/Whatsapp/IRC
>lightweight gaming

I've already looked into OP3 and Nexus 6P both being very solid picks for me, but they both seems to lack in audio quality.

I've been waiting for the Note 7 to upgrade, but I'm thinking it might just be too expensive.

I don't like buying used, but if I could find a used Note Edge (the last note released in my country) and then get a sim off concontract do you guys think that would be ok?

I figure at least the battery is replaceable, eh?
>>
>>56004001
What phone do you currently have?

The exynos Note 4 is still a pretty based phone even today. It scores like 70% the multi-core performance of a Note 7 which is still plenty of processing power.

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-Cellphone-International/dp/B00PB1547M/

It's only $400 on amazon and has a removable battery which the Note 7 lacks.

And what is the benefit of faster updates? Is it for security updates or is it the first phone to have the next iteration of the next Android (aka N)?

So the tech we use for wireless voice on telephone is outdated but would require an enormous amount of effort to switch people off of; what I mean is using discord or skype or simillar over the internet has a significant increase in voice clarity. On top of this, wherever I have a wireless signal I have an internet connection ony smartphone.
So that brings me to ask: can I replace my cellular connections (voice, SMS) with something better that will be backwards compatible? I think Skype has a paid system where you can call phones and have a number to be reached at; any others?
>>
>>56007400
If it's exactly that bad it's bc the battery is dead. You have a s5 get a extended battery from mugen/Hyperion/anker etc. and install cyanogenmod. Especially the older touchwiz versions where a ram hog and so bad that they consume much more power than a cleaner android version/rom.

When I'm biking and PoGoing I have my phone mounted to my handlebars and a 11000mah rechargable battery pack in my front pocket with a 3ft cable connecting them. If I have to park and walk I put my phone in my front pocket and the battery in the back, then I tuck the excess cable into the back too; you can't even see the setup under a T-shirt. The battery costs like 15-20 usd and can charge my phone (gflex 2) 3 times over.

Basically you don't need a replacable battery for this. As for the rest, why not just do a search on Amazon filtered by the system requirements?

Sony? Are you retarded? They didn't release 6.0 on Xperia Z1, which wasn't even full 2 years old at the time.

LG G4 had 6.0 first right after Nexus, and G5 is geetting Nougat even before Nexus.

Moto X Pure.jpg

>>56016319

I chose the Moto X Pure @ $250 with an included 32GB SD card.

I preferred the expandable storage of the SD slot over the better camera on the 5X. I'm happy with my decision although it's been less than a month so I won't pretend to be thoroughly familiar with the device.

>5.7" screen
This is really long but the width is quite manageable so I haven't found it to be an impediment. I wear a U.S. mens size medium for gloves.

>dual front speakers
This is a surprisingly useful feature for me. When shopping, I didn't care about it as a specification but these speakers are LOUD and yet do not distort at maximum volume. I can easily listen to an audiobook in even noisy environments.

>build quality
There's nothing about this device that feels substandard or cheap. The back rubber inlay has a very interesting tactile feel that I find pleasant.

>Cons
Not much here, really. The camera is good but not great and like the last-gen Nexus phones lacks OIS so you're going to need a steady hand to get the best from it.
The screen is an IPS LCD that looks very good but is a poor fit for Moto's Active Display technology, which shows notifications if you move it or wave your hand over the front screen's IR sensors.
Active Display would be better suited with AMOLED because it can light up specific pixels without needing to backlight the entire display, as an LCD does. This is really just a battery efficiency niggle though. I have this feature disabled.
A related and real downside is the lack of a notification LED. There is an LED in the top speaker grille but it is only connected to the charging system and exists as an emergency indicator for charging status when the battery is too low to light the screen.
The aftermarket for cases is scant. The included clear plastic bumper case flexes too much for my taste, giving a cheap feel in the hand. However, the only other bumper case option is the Case Mate case sold by Moto for $20.

They fake the OEM logos, bro. I'd be really careful unless it's being sold by a retail name on eBay.

SDs are really cheap. Which card are you looking at?

What's the best phone I can use on Verizon that's 400 dollars or under?

I don't care about the camera but I like stock or near stock software, good software support and I'd like either expandable storage or at least 64 gigs of storage onboard for music

I'm looking to upgrade from a nexus 6
>>
>>56018674
You're not going to get anything stock on most Verizon phones.

Moto G4 is mostly stock, but has SD617 and can have heat issues.

Verizon G3 has an exploit so it can be rooted

IF you're on contract, it'd be better to just look for a deal on a phone that's relatively stock or can be rooted, like a HTC 10 or perhaps even wait for new Nexus phones.
>>
>>56018755
I'm fine with buying unlocked phones as well, like I did for my Nexus 6

I was thinking about either waiting for the new nexus phones since I want to try HTC after seeing how good the 10 is

Maybe I'll just wait then
>>
>>56018772
Yeah, I made the mistake of going for the Verizon G4 and then realized the crappy bloat + software patches and no root made the thing a pain sometimes. Switching to the HTC10 because I need that mSD and root.

The new Nexus phones will probably be great, but the 5.2" one's price will probably start at at LEAST $350.
>>
How do all these 3rd party unlock services work? Do they just replace the sim reader or something? Is it something anyone can do?
>>
>>56018814
Yeah I mean I love my Nexus 6 but I'm the guy who posted earlier about the screen issue and it's already driving me nuts even though it's a minor thing so I might sell it and buy something new

It's in great shape but between that and the already setting in burn in I'm looking to try something new. Feels bad because I just bought this a month ago but whatever
