It seems that the focus on mobile hardware and the lack of growth and competition on the desktop has curtailed the growth of system requirements compared to previous years.
So considering that, what's the oldest/lowest end computer you could realistically use as your main machine?
For me a 2GHz Athlon X2 with 2GB of DDR and any GPU that supports x264 acceleration is still perfectly usable, but wouldn't go lower than that.

Poorfag here, been using this same laptop for six years now. I hardly ever game (some vanilla WoW now and then) so I don't really need much more than this. The most power-demanding activity it performs is video playback.
Shame the battery is pretty shit at this point.

For portable use: Memepad X200, perfectly good on Linux, used mainly for comfy bed shitposting.
Desktop: my current one (Intel Core2Duo E8500 3.16GHz, GT9600 1GB, 4GB DDR2 RAM and a bunch of old HDDs) is enough for low-setting gayming.
And I don't even need anything more powerful because the newest game I play regularly is MW3.
