I left my Note 4 in airplane mode, cleared all app caches, and only had shuttle+ running in the foreground playing MP3 music albums on loop with the screen off. It was at 100% when I started the test and 24 hours later was at 70 fucking percent. I could have gone longer but I had shit to do.

Anyway just try it if you don't believe me. HW music decoding has come a long way in Android SoCs.

Why isn't the fact that you can't download over 100MB files over LTE on this? Surely at least some parts of US have decent LTE networks where you don't have to waste battery and see the trouble of setting up WiFi? This is a deal breaker to many European customers, you can't even update the OS. I mean seriously, this is a fucking big downside of iOS. I don't know about standby time but I'm pretty sure it's over 72 hours for my Note 4. Anyway the test I did was on airplane mode so no power was used to locate cell towers or shit.

Anyway what I'm trying to get across is that using your Android phone to listen to music will have very little impact on overall battery life because of how 1337 HW music decoding has become.
