eBay has a fucking four year old bug that they're not going to fix.
I went to sell an item, offered free shipping. Looked up the listing on my computer, looked fine. Looked it up the next morning on my phone, it said "CONTACT SELLER" in big red letters instead of "FREE SHIPPING." You know that's gonna scare off bidders.
Called them, talked in circles with an Indian allegedly named Chris who flat out denied it was happening because he didn't see the "CONTACT SELLER" thing on his computer and I couldn't get him to comprehend that PC and mobile browsers worked differently.
Googled it, people were experiencing the same issue in 2012 without it ever being addressed. Twenty fucking twelve!
How the fuck does a billion dollar e-commerce site run like that?

That's the new thing these days, to make your users do the work because they are the ones who know what they want, not ebay. It's shitty, but it also allows them to stay alive (I still fucking hate ebay though)

Not entirely true. I was selling an android tablet a few years ago and the buyer claimed she received it damaged and with a cracked screen. She said she didnt want to blame the shipping and that I was intentionally trying to scam her. I showed them timestamped photos of it before being shipped to show that it was pristine, and they settled it in my favor, saying she could either go through UPS with the dispute, or admit fault on her part (which it probably was).
It's shitty that it's basically "guilty until proven innocent" for sellers, but so long as you're careful you aren't going to get ripped off.

The mobile site is a travesty. Using the site in Desktop mode is more or less mandatory.
I still use eBay for selling. Amazon doesn't compare when it comes to search. Heck OP, for all eBay's flaws it's still superior in interface to Amazon.
Amazon, Costco & Walmart all demonstrate that if the underlying concept is good enough, people will tolerate a negative user experience to get what they're after.
