Sennheiser PC 350 SE are the ones i'm using right now. They sound fine to me, but I'm a pleb. However, I'm planning on buying headphones this time and maybe using a modmic as I stated earlier. I just don't know if that's really a good setup.
>>
I added foam to my HD598's and it actually made it sound quite good. I no longer need to use the equalizer to get the sounds balanced out. Its semi-open air still with two air holes in each earpiece but that is just so the driver is working good.

I can take pictures if anyone is interested. I'm sure it'd work on a HD555 or anything like it.

CAL! has a little isolation. Portapro has none.

>>55980493
It does sound good and it's probably as sturdy as it gets in the price range.
I had mine for years now and, besides the pads, everything else works flawlessly, the stock pads did caused some minor discomfort, but they didn't last long anyway (my v6 sees some pretty heavy use), got Auray Sheep Skin pads to replace them, turns out these are not only more durable, but more comfortable and better at isolating too.

Hello friends.

I'm looking to get a budget tier mic that isn't terrible to go with my headphones. More specifically one that is resilient to ambient noise.

Back when I purchased my ATH-M50 2 years ago I got the Zalman ZM mic-1 that clips on to the headphone cord. I used it for a few days but that thing picks up everything and my mechanical keyboard is pretty loud. Used a shit $12 headset till now for voice which kinda sucks and nig-rigging it with an inexpensive mic is really uncomfortable.
>>
I have questions not about buying headphones.

Best/most useful source gear for up to $600?
I want portability that leaves room for further headphone upgrades.
Axon 7 is great audio quality at $400. I will use it as a DAP with a smartphone attached.
Mojo obvious mention, $400-$450 used, definitely good for future upgrades but not as portable (have to connect to phone or something, carry that around).
dragonfly red/black for $75-$175 used, cheapest option, greatest room for headphone upgrade.

Suggestions?

Definitely more voltage and current to it. There are a few other portable suggestions. But, take a look at the various insensitive headphones and see if you really want to take them on the go.

I decided the $200 price different wasn't worth it, given what else I can do for $200. If I considered the v10, the price difference is $300

And the sale ended today, so it's actually $300 difference now between the Axon 7 and $400 between v10.

I've only read specs and reviews, scoured forums for audiophiles who have it. But I haven't heard ANY of these items yet. Just narrowing down options before I go through the hassle of finding demos or ordering and returning/reselling.

>on the go
I figured I have three portable scenarios:

most demanding movement - motorcycling/jogging/quick walks to corner store. I'll use monk plus and whatever source, probably phone.

Somewhat demanding:
Listening in public places, long walks, in between classes, travelling.

Stationary:
Studying in my room, gaming, you get it.

Phone works in all three categories, Mojo and similar purchases in the second two, USB dac is cheapest option and in all 3.

Could you elaborate on why not to go with the Black/Red? My music tastes change pretty fluidly so I want a versatile setup, dunno if that actually means anything.

There aren't any brick-and-mortar stores or anything near me where I can test out different combinations of gear, and buying/returning gets expensive fast if there are restocking fees.

I figured I could buy and sample used gear, then resell for a marginal higher cost to cover what I would pay in shipping. If I do this in greater volume, I could also offer sampling to people in my area in similar predicaments.

How feasible is this? I've seen used gear go pretty low, but the reselling is where I see issues.

>What is the consensus on USB c phones?

>consensus
>/g/

Majority of people me included seem to object the removal of a perfectly working TRS jack in favor of a single USB connector which is also used for media transferring, charging, docking, tethering etc and limits the use of multiple of these at the time. There's nothing wrong in using USB for digital audio output, leaving the DA-conversion and amplification to the headphones themselves or to another external device, but it being the only option is awful. Many if not most modern smartphones can already output audio with USB but the vast majority of headphones are connected with the same old TRS jack and they will require an adapter with DAC and amplifier built into it to work. This creates can create issues with different headphone loads, I mostly fear worse performance.

Logitech USB Headset H530

>>
>>55985433
I've been seeing the V10 for a lot less than that. It should be said that the V10 has a very unusual audio arrangement.
I don't find most smartphone measurements satisfactory. Reviewers have rarely have anything to offer on audio issues.

I asked that question because almost all insensitive headphones, the ones that would benefit from using the Mojo over a competent phone output, are bulky and usually open backed.

The Black is not a powerful device. Unless you are dealing with region limited output, it doesn't offer much over a smartphone/laptop/whatever output. While the Red has more voltage available to it, it doesn't handle low impedance loads well, not better than the Black.

Not sure if /g/ can help me on this one, not exactly related but kinda.

I've been looking at the m6 pros like >>55996217 said, they look good, but I notice Amazon offer some insurance thing.

Normally I would never consider insurance or other bs add ons, but these iems are £38 (drop to 32.50 sometimes) and I can get accidental cover for 4 years for £12.

Now, considering I break my headphones every 3-6 months, £12 for replacements sound pretty damn good.

Anyone have any experience with this insurance thing?
>>
>>55998480
They attempt to repair the item, if it can't be done you get a replacement. IEMs like these can only be repaired by the manufacturer to their standards, even if it's a simple problem like wiring. I think in such a case they might just replace the item for you if it's broken.

I could be wrong however.
>>
>>55998903
I've gone through the reviews of the insurance on Amazon and they're all basically "hope I don't need to use! 5 stars". What's the point...

I honestly might just buy the insurance and stick a review up of whether it's actually worth the money AFTER claiming.

I dont have MDR1A to compare, but I have MSR7 which are closed.

I prefer Fidelio X2 for vidya, shows, and movies because the soundstage is much larger.

I only use MSR7 for music out and about since I wouldn't look like a tool and won't leak noise to the public.

Even then, passive Isolation is poor on MSR7, even worse on the MDR1A. The MSR7 at least has reasonably isolation at higher frequencies.

If you don't care about taking your headphones with you outdoors you might as well get the X2s a lot comfier as well, I could wear them all day without complaint.

I had the Piston 2's previously and liked them a lot and in the interim I've been using some cheap Phillips earphones so it's not really that my ears are just used to higher quality audio now so I didn't realise the change.

Are the Piston Hybrids much more bassier than the Piston 3's? I think that might be a factor, anyone own a pair? How are they?

I don't think you can go wrong with fidelio X2 for vidya and movies.

Having a 3.5mm female port is handy, I got a vmoda boompro mic which I works pretty well on the X2 and MSR7 so you can convert almost any headphone with 3.5mm port into a headset.

If you are into music though fidelio X2's signature might not appeal to you unless you listen to electronic or bass heavy music.

It is colored a fair bit on the lower end, hump around 100Hz similar to MDR1A but not to the point where they are bassheads.

If you want less bass emphasis perhaps consider the k7xx or K712, but you will need an amp. And they have a mini XLR port not 3.5mm so Vmoda boompro is not an option if you want to convert it into a headset.

There is ant lion modmic 2.0 as another option, but then you will need to glue a magnet to your Headphones and run a separate cable to your PC which I don't like personally.

Really like the volume adjust dial and mute/unmute mic slider on the vmoda boom pro. But enough about that already. You probably don't care about attaching a mic anyways.

If you want something cheaper and still decent for gaming with wide soundstage a lot of people seem to swear by HD598. They are an open pair with replaceable cable but it is not 3.5mm.

I don't know how long it would last you though, seen many people saying their 598s broke.

Fidelio X2 in comparison is built like a mother fucking tank. I'd only be concerned of the elastic band stretching and going loose.

I'm loving the boom pro man, you just pop in a 3 pole 3.5mm into you headset.

At the other end is a 4 pole, they give you a splitter which splits the 4 pole into two sepperate 3 poles, one for the mic and the other for the headphones which you hook up to your source/motherboard.

I don't know how sound quality compares to mod mic, I think the mod mic might be better in that regard, vmoda boom pro sound good enough for me.

I had to crank up the gain and boost to max though in order to hear it and enable noise suppression and acoustic echo cancellation in microphone properties to remove the hissing background noise.

Once setup properly people can hear me even if I am speaking in a low voice.

The advantage with the boompro is that you don't need to run a separate cable to the PC and you get a mute/unmute and volume slider.

Not certain if mod mic has these as well. Comes in handy if you want to mute the mic quickly or lower/raise the volume in game quickly.

And most importantly you don't need to glue a magnet to your headphones if that bothers you.

Mute/unmute is pretty damned handy for games that force you to use open mic by default like EDF4.1.

Sennheiser HD201s were my only "real" headphones i've ever owned, and my only complaint was that they fit weird on my head.

Are HD 598s a waste of money if I have absolutely no intention of investing in a DAC or an amp? I just want something neutral and comfy for as cheap as possible.
>>
>>56007413
Never tried the 650 + amp setup, seems closer to neutral with less coloration based on the FR chart.

Depends on how much you love your base and whether you want to try out a tube amp.

Considering you want to use it for gaming as well and bass heavy music I would recommend the X2 over the 650.

With X2 you have the option of using vmoda boom pro as well if you want a mic for gaming or chat with people on voip etc... The cable is fairly easy to replace as 3.5mm male to male is fairly standard.

If you happen to want to listen to music that has less emphasis on base occasionally as well then HD650 would be a safer choice. Doesn't seem to be lacking in base as it is in line with the mids with a slight roll off in the sub bass region.

X2 bass is accentuated around 60Hz so the sub bass roll off is in line with the mids at 30Hz.

X2s are pretty fucking comfy too my ears are fairly large and don't touch the pads. The stock pads are also fairly thick so your ears won't touch the driver.

The elastic band might be a little squeeky if your head is thin, stuffing it with a bit of tissue paper resolved that issue for me.

As for the memory velour pads they are fucking lint magnets. They look nice and plush and black when you buy them but after use they start to collect lint and dead skin. Pain in the ass to clean.

I recently got some sheep skin leather HM5 pads to try out on my MSR7 but it made them sound horrible so I stretched them and slapped them on my X2s.

They sound a little darker now with more sub bass extension, smell great, and are less of an eye sore as they are easier to clean.

Anyone got any recs on some cheap open headphones?

By cheap I mean £30 or below

I need some headphones that I don't need to worry about destroying but also don't sound like absolute shit

I would have gone for PortaPros I've had them before when they used to be £17 but I'm not paying £30 for anything with that atrocious build quality (or design) they break way too easy. Why have they upped so much in price recently anyway? Increase in popularity due to their decent sound/price + hipsters liking the god awful Tron look?

PX100-IIs would be my go to (and what I've been using for years) but they have upped to £45 I have no idea what Sennheiser is thinking with that pricing.

Size doesn't matter, can't be in ear. Need them to be open as closed feels awful for me.

Cheers friends

I'm so mad /hpg/

I'm pretty poor so I've always used relatively cheap head and earphones- but they always sounded really good, maybe I just lucked out, I don't know. But today for the first time I bought headphones double my usual price range, a Sennheiser HD 201.

This is is BY FAR the absolute worst headphone I've ever used. Everything sounds muffled, like the sound is coming from underwater. Especially the bass. Not only that, but the volume is absolutely atrocious - on PC and my smartphone too. I'm about 99% sure a simple pair of earphones is louder than this piece of crap.
I'm positively seething with rage.

Should I just put these out onto Ebay, or should I hold onto them? I mean, free is free so I won't complain, but I know the reputation Beats have and these certainly have a hefty pricetag attached to them.

Yes, but not because of the DAC/Amp, more because they share the exact same driver with the HD558, which is much cheaper,s ound quality is very similar and you can even do an easy reversible mod if you absolutelly need the same sound (some people actually preffer the HD558 over the HD598).

I've had HD555 and HD558 previously.
When I travel I just use cheap earbuds or apple earbuds.

As for what music I listen to, it's all over the place really. idm/acid stuff like aphex twin, squarepusher & more, I listen to hip hop, metal sometimes. Lots of stuff really. Mainly electronic music though.

Thinking maybe the shure se215, but I've heard ppl say they are too bassy? I've never had headphones that had an emphasis on bass so I might want to try them out but scared I won't like them. Thoughts? Are they good for IDM stuff?

By giving that literal faglord the attention he wants is only going to make him come back and post more of that shit. Stop it you cunts.

I think he's the Op of /mkg/. One of them, anyways.

If I'm right, he's the epitome of autism and nothing is going to make him go away.

Don't know about that as I've hidden that useless general. Probably posts there because of the meme aftermarket keycaps. He keeps forcing himself and his faggotry to nearly every thread which revolves around posting pictures and has a trip which is disable for whatever reason right now. Probably wanted everyone to see his toys again.
