Is there any recourse now that Chrome removed the option to disable Directwrite and instead forces it on for everbody with the latest update?
Font Rendering Enhancer extension for Chrome.

yeah that didn't do anything
Just use Firefox, it's essentially Chrome now anyway. It's so fucking Chrome I had to move to Palemoon to get away from it.

Not a viable option, I use Chrome specific extensions daily and the scrolling in Firefox is slower, I don't know how to make it jump similar lines in length

I'm pretty sure fonts look so pixelated by default on Windows

I don't use cleartype or any form of font smoothing at all. So Disabling Directwrite worked wonders on font rendering, now certain fonts look like shit after the update.
refer to image, they were nice and good with directwrite disabled.

Switch to GNU/Linux.
Change your font rendering however you want
(hinting, antialiasing).
