Let's have a UseNet thread.

>What's your provider?

>What's your indexer?

>What's your client?

I'm new to UseNet. I have a Synology NAS that's running NZBGet, NewsHosting as the provider and NZBGeek as the indexer.

I'm using Sonarr and CouchPotato to set up downloads. I also have the NewsHosting client but I don't fully get how to use it and how to use the interface to the fullest capacity.
>>
I'm curious about porn on UseNet is there any uh, interesting stuff? I did searches for things like stickam and omegle on NZBGeek and didn't get anything but got lots of results when I searched in the NewsHosting client. Why is that?

Paying to pirate easily and at the highest quality. I used to use the same set up but using KAT etc. but since they got closed down I figured now was as good a time as any to switch to Usenet. It's worked better with Sonarr in terms of getting old episodes etc. which I like.

cucked by ratio or cucked by paying

you're cucked either way.

I stopped using Gigabit when I discovered they were keeping a log of every group I visited.
>>
>>55970465
User limit but fair enough
>>
Newshosting + TweakNews block
Dognzb + NZBGeek + Others
SABNZBD + Sonarr + CouchPotato + Headphones

Initially I thought paying to pirate was stupid but it's honestly less work and cheaper than getting full fat Netflix in Australia, I get every new show movie and album straight away and they can't rectally penetrate me for seeding. Also my server is my HTPC so I can gaymen on it too, an added bonus.

Only downside is storage space and electricity cost, but using a low power CPU helps with that
>>
>>55970553

I used to use my gaming computer as my HTPC too but then I got a Synology NAS that's much lower power and runs everything for me so I've got my PC off about 95% of the time. I'll see the change in my electric bill in the next few weeks. Hopefully it'll be down by a fair bit.

The storage space is a bit of a pain but as higher and higher density drives become available it's not too bad. I've only got a terabyte drive right now and it's only half full. In early September I'm gonna get a couple of 4 TB WD Reds though and that should keep me going for a long time.

What is the benefit of usenet over private torrent trackers? I would really like to get into usenet but unsure what its all about.

good open index sites / nzb ?

i'll share one for gaems

>>
>>55971913

Over some of the better private trackers? Not a whole lot. One benefit of Usenet though is that you're not exposing yourself to anyone as an uploader (like through seeding). You also don't have to worry about maintaining a seed ratio or anything like that. It's also nice not having to worry about number of seeders. If the file is on UseNet you'll get to use your full download speeds.

Against some of the private trackers you probably also have better file selection and quality options. I had barely any knowledge of UseNet but spent a couple hours today and had my full set up put together and I've been scanning through it all day grabbing a lot of stuff.
>>
>>55972104

BinSearch and NZBClub are both free indexers included in CouchPotato so those might be worth looking at.
>>
>>55972459

bandwidth is a biggie. You'll literally max out your bandwidth, it's glorious.

Retention is also quite good. Stumbled across some VHS rips of movies never releaed to DVD or blu ray and grabbed those, including pic related
>>
my provider is usenetserver and i pay $100/year for the service

Not tell my indexer because it's private

My client is nzbget

>>
>>55972548

If your ISP offers it (Never heard of that) I'd recommend against it. Anything you want to download you wouldn't want your ISP to know about directly unless you're in some country where piracy is officially endorsed as a fuck you to the US/the EU.
>>
>>55972561

do some googe fu on setting up. SABnzbd is a free client to get you started.

If your ISP supplies usenet, you'll have a log in and pw, this will need to be input into the nzb client ( SABnzbd ) for example

nzb files are the download file , open the .nzb file with SABnzbd and the file ( archive zip, rar, whatever ) will dl
>>
>>55972483

Wow, that's awesome. How'd you find it? That stuff would probably be a treasure trove for the RedLetterMedia guys on their Best of the Worst/Wheel of the Worst segments.

Any other good finds?
>>
>>55972583
>>55972590

Chiming in to say, yea you probably would not want to use your home ISP to make use of usenet, for the reasons the other anon gave

nzb indexers that consolidate search from multiple nzb index and list results
>>
>>55972620

It does offer access to UseNet but it looks like it's only gonna offer you access to some of the text communication boards, not the boards that will have videos, software, pictures etc.

Even if it did I'd want to have some space between me and my ISP knowing about my downloads.

Oh wow, it's also super racist. I guess I shouldn't really be surprised given the era lol.

Any other fun bits worth gifing?
>>
>>55972750

Yeah, considering the quality of everything on here and the ease of use once it's set up I wish I'd converted to this earlier. It also got me to switch from SickRage to Sonarr so that was another perk. Sonarr seems to be much better for my uses thusfar.
>>
>>55972750
>download bluray quality media.
I can do that for free.

>>
>>55972982

Do you already have Sonarr/Couch Potato installed? If not, install those first. You'll also need a downloader, I recommend NZBGet.

Then you'll also need an indexer. I use NZBGeek which is $6 for 6 months. If you don't want to spend any money you can use one of the free indexers in CouchPotato that I mentioned here: >>55972474 and won't require any additional set up (I think, I didn't try to use them).

Go to CouchPotato settings (cog icon in the bottom left corner) and go to Searcher.

Scroll down to the bottom and activate options I mentioned above or activate newznab and input the relevant information (it'll be in an email sent to you if you're using NZBGeek).

In CouchPotato now go to the Downloaders setting and activate NZBGet and input the relevant information. You should be basically good to go.

NZBGet does need a bit of configuring, just go to the System part of that and tell it where you want it to download stuff etc.

This is a quick overview of the basics. I'd recommend googling for a better tutorial or instruction set. I'm sure there's youtube videos showing exactly what to do as well.

Is Usenet any good for books/textbooks these days? I used it years ago but it only seemed useful for the latest TV shows.
>>
Usenet is deprecated

>>>/ptg/
>>
>>55972620
I have optimum and their usenet is free but there's a catch

1) it's capped at 500kb/s
2) retention is only 7 days

It's good to use for new stuff that just dropped but that's it. I mainly use it to dl porn

How low have we gone?

where is the porn? all i can find is spam.

trying using somepre db release names from the last seven days. Some file names are Obfuscated, generally I use the split rar file name of scene release to pull things up, worst case.
>>
>>55973085

What's a textbook you may need? I'll do a search and let you know. I'm long out of school so I'm not sure.

>>55970357
cp is bad anon
>>
>>55973252

I don't need anything specific right now, I was just wondering it if was good for books in general. But now that you mention it I just realized I could just do use the NZB search websites myself even, if I don't have Usenet access.
