How do we future-proof Windows 7 so that it continues to work with new hardware in 10, 20 or 30 years time? I note that the first version of MS DOS, released in 1981, still works on modern 64-bit hardware and USB keyboard, so there is hope yes?

That's because x86-64 CPUs can emulate 16-bit real mode operation, PC graphics cards can emulate CGA/VGA and USB controllers can emulate AT and PS/2 keyboards. All of those parts have extended capabilities beyond those emulated modes, none of which can be used by MS-DOS (Or any other DOS for IBM clones, for that matter)

7 is the new XP and if Microsoft decides to build a new kernel from the ground up after 10 then 7 will share XP's fate eventually.

Yes there is still hope, all you have to do is remove it from your hard drive and install a GNU/Linux distribution, such as gentoo

Unless your little crew of shut-in NEETs learns how to write drivers for the new hardware, it's not gonna happen.
We could always have the Muds make a custom "distro" of Windows 7, complete with preloaded cracked programs and Nasheeds that play during installation.

Free (as in freedom) software doesn't have this problem. :^)

Why people just don't configure a dual boot with w10 for gayming and a distro for their shit posting?

No need.

Doesn't Windows 10 hate dual booting with drives that have another operating system on it? Heard one of my friends couldn't boot into W10 after he installed Arch on another HDD that he encrypted.
