OP here. Just figured it out. I plugged a random 8pin into my CPU power instead of the one marked "CPU" by the PSU.

Fuck my life.

Turned out it was not seated properly, even though it looked like it was. Motherboard only had retention clips on one side of the module so you couldn't tell from them securing the module in place whether it was there or not.

I did this yesterday.

Mobo has three usb sockets, two are blue and one is white.
I need all three and plugged something into the white one, it had all the right pins and fit well.
Then it wouldn't post until I took it out, I don't think it's a usb socket.

Double check connections.
When shit doesn't turn on it is actively preventing itself from turning on to protect itself.
Not turning on is okay.
