hahaha making old software obsolete
but muh DX12

I'm excited to see how many more group policy settings they take away from my Pro version with these updates. Missing options make managing everything so much more streamlined because I have less to think about and fiddle with.

Holy shit! Who knew they will put out more updates in the coming year?
>>
Well, they should fix first their AU bugs.

>Blast from the past! Clippy is back, now offering you exciting new Microsoft products from the Windows Store!
>Explorer.exe is being replaced with Cortana
>>
Just installed it to my laptop.

Are you fucking serious? You can no longer tell to postpone installation and ask you when you want to install them, instead you get to set "active hours", max 12 hours a day, after which it will autoinstall and reboot when you aren't looking?

For the longest time, the bane of Microsoft was fragmentation and people not updating their systems. They really want that over.

>>55930728
Pro no longer means anything. It's going to be Windows (pay once) and Windows Enterprise (pay monthly).
>>
>>55930759
I swear to god I'm going to find and pistolwhip the next guy telling people to upgrade to this shit.

Turn of auto-update? Or did they take that option away too? I never "upgraded" to 8 let alone 10 but only fucking retards have ever used auto update.
>>
>>55930779
>Or did they take that option away too?
Yes, since last year.

>>
>>55930820

That's priceless.

There goes any point in upgrading my 290x EVER.
>>
>>55930834
Even on pro, I mean. Only active hours and option to postbone the reboot when the time comes. Too bad if you're not there when that happens.

Speaking of which, there were talks about being able to skip drivers but I can't find that option anywhere.
>>
>>55930779
Use the "network settings > advanced > metered connection" trick, though how long before M$ decides to take that away is anyone's guess.
>>
>>55930875
You have to download a separate tool from Microsoft that allows you to hide/prevent a driver update from installing. But it's only temporary, I'm led to believe.
>>
it makes me feel like i'll continue to defer updates

i thought it was pretty obvious the anniversary would be a shitshow. i'm holding off to upgrade until it stabilizes and i'm really surprised a lot more people didn't do this as well.
>>
>>55930934
Doesn't work if you're on LAN
>>
>>55930759
Basically:
Regular windows 10
>Pay for OS. Then get targeted adds in desktop so Microsoft can get even more cash out of you, along with sharing your personal information.

Enterprise
>Pay a monthly bill for an OS so you don't have to get adds.

Fucking idiots
>Hurry Durr were gonna make fun of people who jumped ship and use Linux as their main OS because we're too scared of what Microsoft might do to our gaems
>>
A year ago everyone complained about windows 10 and ridiculed anyone even considering the update.

Now I visit /g/ and it seems like everyone is on windows10?

Same. I was pretty much going to upgrade until the little bits about the lock screen and cortana came out. For the first time, I decided to simply disable Windows Update and see how the situation progresses. So far it's not looking good.

>>55931098
That's more or less the idea, but for the time being you can disable the ads and suggestions. Surely that option will go away for Home users in the near future.

There were credible rumors Microsoft was thinking of letting pirated copies of windows 7 upgrade to genuine Windows 10.

That way, Microsoft could easily get the 2 billion mark for Windows 10 users because India and China lone could give Microsoft 2 billion new users easily.

Is there any particular reason win7 is such a fucking pain to install?

I get some retarded hangup at "windows is finalizing your settings" which never completes, and if I reboot it starts the OS up with fewer working drivers than the typical safe mode. No internet, no USB.

I'm trying to figure out how to unfuck this bullshit.

My best guess is to figure out what driver is needed for the internet, install that by using a linux usb boot to manually transfer the file to the OS hdd using an operating system that actually functions out of the box, then turn on automatic updates and hope windows can do the rest without fucking up (unlikely).

Why the fuck can't windows be as easy to install as linux ffs

Postponing updates? It's definitely possible on Enterprise. You can set updating on full manual, basically. I have Education edition, but from what I know Enterprise is the same with a few added features
.
The only thing you have to do is remove the auto update tasks from task scheduler and not have Windows update service on "automatic" start. It's on manual (triggered) by default, so that shouldn't be a problem.

It also has defer upgrades feature, which should in theory make it so that you don't get updates such as anniversary update until 8 months passes. Beyond that it's just a matter of pressing the check updates button in the windows updater whenever you want updates, because it's not gonna do it itself.
>>
>>55941743
35 rupees were deposited in your account.

>>55941830
I'm not saying that Windows 10 is good, I'm only telling you what is possible and what is not possible because I use it and I am in the process of exploring just that.

They're copying Apple, when they hit OS X and every since 2001 it's been OS X 10.X.X
>>
>>55928157
Nothing, because they already said years ago this would be the standard way of updating Windows.

Windows 10 will be the last Microsoft OS, which simply means it will keep getting updated with new builds every year.

Why are you so surprised, OP?
