I'm an IT professional and I still don't know this. In case of blackout, is it substantially harmful to desktop computer hardware?
>>
it can corrupt data that's in the process of being written. restarting always-on servers can be a huge pain in the ass, depending on what it runs. you'll get some downtime.

it's usually dealt with by UPS, battery backups and generators

I guess I deserved this. My superior even warned me to always power down the machines safely. When I told him I fucked up, he didn't even get that upset.

The Russians sent people into space with technology designed while blackout drunk.
Only problem is there is a 50/50 chance of it working or exploding.
>>
But for real now do blackouts do any damage to electrical components?
>>
>>55920048
Does unplugging your TV break it?
>>
>>55920048
Other than write corruptions on the harddrive, not really.
Brownouts on the other hand can cause a lot of weird problems.
