Nothing new, really.
People will continue to use it for convenience
The Desktop/laptop, aka x86, platform will die before the year of the Linux desktop.

oh no, those things I got rid of forever ago, and AU my friend

Replace every word in that sentence with botnet and it'd have just a much weight and actual meaning

Now come on you're a start boy.......or maybe you're retarded because that's untrue
>No file system support except NTFS and FAT (also only one partition on flash drives)
I can personally atest this was difficult but no normie ever bothers with it and if they are, their are free open source programs that can do it
Basically, here's to (you) Nicola and Bart

Shit sure as hell doesn't break when you update on Linux as long as you don't have a meme distro e.g. Arch.
>/g/ wants personalization, but doesn't like choice, go figure
The problem here is not that there are many APIs, but rather that there are many APIs that do mostly the same thing. For example, having several graphics APIs would be great if one was suited to 2D, one to 3D, etc... D3D9, D3D11 and OpenGL all do 3D rendering, with some subtle differences. With menu themes, there should be consistency. When you personalize the menu then all menus should change.
>oh no, those things I got rid of forever ago, and AU my friend
The fact that they are there in the first place is wrong.
>Now come on you're a start boy.......or maybe you're retarded because that's untrue
I had to download Ethernet drivers on another computer before i could use the internet on my computer, but i guess that is all just untrue?
>I can personally atest this was difficult but no normie ever bothers with it and if they are, their are free open source programs that can do it
Those open source programs are shit. Show me a good ext >4< driver that doesn't corrupt inodes when you write to them.
>>

I don't think you got the ads if you were in the beta program.

Meanwhile in Linux world the solution to this is to use RHEL or SuSE, never update the kernel, pay a fuckload of money and rely on Red Hat/SuSE to backport security fixes.

>>55908635
Arch is the one that breaks shit and removes configurations when you run updates.

we need google to make some shit
they will probably botnet as bad as ms though
>>
>>55909926
No, fuck Google. I don't trust them with shit. Would rather have Apple completely revamp their OS and make it less botnet (if they are botnet at all, I imagine they'd be)
>>
It annoys me that there is no truly great desktop OS even though the desktop is one of the oldest computer types that should be perfected by now.

What will it take to get Windows level compatibility with Linux/OSX tier everything else?

Why can't someone just do it already? Throw some fucking money behind a new OS the same way Google got Android going to compete with iPhone. We get new fucking browsers every year and there are all sorts of Word alternatives but nobody wants to make any new OS since forever(just more Linux dists).

Why is it so hard to use anything but Windows? Even Linux users all fucking dual boot it. You'd think with the rise of Android and iOS someone would jump at the chance to reinvent the desktop OS for the modern age, but no. The best alternative is still fucking Macintosh of things.

>Why is it so hard to use anything but Windows?
People choose convenience. "Hurr I've been using it forever, I don't want to switch, learning how to computer is hard" plus a general lack of knowledge (but I can't open my poorly formatted Word documents that I haven't looked at in 15 years, they will look wrong because I'm too stupid to use formatting properly).
Compatibility is an issue because proprietary software is a thing. Can't really develop software that is compatible to other software if you don't know what its API is like, what it's actually doing etc etc. Also licensing issues.

Basically we were fucked over decades ago when proprietary software was allowed to become successful by aggressively marketing it to dumb people.

>>55908368
AND YET. Despite all of this.
It's a better desktop OS than any GNU/Linux distro.

When was the last time anyone had problems with their audio or compositing or lack vsync?
>>
>>55910672
I haven't had audio, compositing or vsync problems on GNU/Linux, ever.

I did a fresh install of the anniversary update the other day and didn't have a single piece of undetected hardware. It found all my chipset drivers, along with wireless and Bluetooth, and downloaded graphics drivers once it reached the desktop. Literally just werks.

THANk YOU BASED MICROSOFT

top kike

It's not windows, it's another malware that caused the issue, someone replaced some executables with malware in fosshub hack. The malware just over writes the MBR. NSA/Windows deleted classic start menu and people had to reinstall from fosshub, that's why it's incidence is too high.
