>the new address bar in FF48

Why do they want me to switch to a different browser so much? Is Edge worth using after W10 Anniversary gave it browser extensions?

>>
>>55907574
The changes have taken place during the last few versions, so the people who really noticed were the ones that had that setting disabled from the start

- Firefox sometimes suggests sites to visit that have nothing to do with what you're typing. In the past, disabling the unified awesome bar fixed it.
- You generally get a lot more suggestions depending on your search engines
- The first entry shows up as either a search or a visit suggestion, which would be the default action when pressing enter.
- You are limited on the number of entries that show up, which is further limited by the various switch/search/visit entries that show up

The cosmetic changes vary from simply annoying to mildly infuriating, depending on how much you use the address bar as a history quick search.
>>
>>55907633
it works for me. but i have it set to display 100 items so.. by default there's like 10 or 15..

>>
>>55907736
Yes, do what >>55907194 suggests to restore functionality.

>>55907740
Yes, but my point was that the default limit of items decreased compared to previous versions, AND you now get extra items taking place on this already limited space. You can set whatever amount of items you want, just like you can restore two-line functionality and remove the extra entries.
>>
>>55907792
Honestly "revert everything" would solve all of Firefox's problems if they iterated it enough times.

I think that the old Opera knockoff UI was the high point. Half the reason I use the Nightly update channel is because the theme is much more compact and lets me pretend that it isn't a Chrome knockoff.

i've used firefox for a very long time

i like the freedom and resonable memory footprint

i love addons and customizability

i hate the design decisions and some other controversial decisions that firefox developers have made in every new release

don't get me wrong there are a lot of good
updates, but still,
for firefox to look like poohole and getting worse every release wants me to use something else

the fack that firefox uses a native or GTK3 file picker/save dialog isn't helping either

i don't like chrome/chromium/vivaldi/opera whatever

using icecat, ESR(or tor) is only a short-term solution as they will be updated later some time

i olso am not willing to try palemoon/waterfox etc, i bet they'll get updated in the future as well

as a KDE user a good option would be to use konqeror

i'd forgive the poor performance of konqeror only if it had 2 things

1: an addon like ublock, which has good performance and allows to use custom filter lists

at the moment konqeror has a basic adblocker and some hardcoded filter lists
with and ability to add custom filters as php files

that is not good enough for me

2: something like greasemonkey to run ccd0 4chan x on

konqeror has 1 good thing that i really like, a dolphin-like KDE save/open file dialog

i remember SUSE used to have somtehing like that for firefox but that was more of an hack

anyone have suggestions for an alternate browser?
>>

>Some add-ons now not working.
>Can't enable them even from the config.

I'd really like to hear the reasoning behind this shit.
Probably just going with the trend of taking control away from the people and trying to herd them into eventually buying all of their extensions from some fucking store.
Guess it's rollback time for me.
>>
>>55932663
This change is theoretically good because it'll prevent retards having extensions added by malware (look at the Classic Shell fiasco. people skipped the warning that the signature was invalid and installed a hacked version that deleted they partition table).

However, the only people still using Firefox today are smart enough to avoid that. They are going kamikaze on their user base. Fuck Mozilla.

>Is Edge worth using after W10 Anniversary gave it browser extensions?

NO WebM SUPPORT
NO WebM SUPPORT
>>
>>55921279
You can't.
>>
>>55932798
webm is just a container, cocksucker, and VP8/VP9 (the actual codecs) are being phased out in favor of the new codec in development by the Alliance for Open Media, of which Microsoft is one of the sponsors: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alliance_for_Open_Media

Once again, reason and actual research trumps freetard FUD.
>>
>>55932869
Google are their sponsors too, VP* isn't going anywhere.
>>
>>55932869
They couldn't bring WebM in a year worth of updates.

Check out the AV1 article then :^)
Will you even notice how hard did you just btfo yourself?
>>
>minor, revertable, cosmetic change to the UI
>wtf I hate Firefox now I better download and install Microsoft Windows 10 - Anniversary Edition, as presented by Microsoft Corporation so that I can use Microsoft Internet Explorer Edge as presented by Microsoft Corporation
Seems legit.
>>
>>55932910
Check what, faggot? It just proves my point:

>Due to appropriate companies being present in the Alliance it is assumed to get rapid adoption by major webbrowsers (Mozilla, Microsoft, Google

VP8/VP9 are abandonware
>>
>>55932930
It's not minor or revertable. You have to install a fucking bloated addon to have titles and URLs in different lines. I'd rather use another browser than have 5 addons just not to be raped in the ass by mandatory changes imposed by the cucks at Mozilla
>>
>>55928850

> i remember SUSE used to have somtehing like that for firefox but that was more of an hack

Uh no, it's a real patchset that brings you the kde/dolphin filepicker inlcuding thumbnails.
Install OpenSuse!
Or Gentoo because there's a layman overlay for that.
>>
>>55932931
Kek, you actually didn't notice. AV1 is LITERALLY VP10.
>VP10 will replace 9 and 8
Woah.

Are you fucking literate I repeatedly said that VP8 and VP9 are dead (can you even count?), and yes, because of this new shit

You're lucky you aren't in front of me, or I'd punch you hard for being so stupid
>>
>>55932948
For .deb-based istros: https://launchpad.net/~plasmazilla

Fuck Mozilla for making people install shady patched versions instead of offering proper KDE support. They'd rather fuck up the address bar than invest their time in supporting KDE

I use CTR + FT Deep Dark, so there's no change for me.

As long as I can use addons, I'll use FF.

When Mozilla removes that, I can only hope Vivaldi or another browser will be a good substitute.

Just thinking that you believe that makes me smile.

Nightly just pulled this Bullshit, you can no longer use the tab key to switch to the next result, the tab key changes the search engine. Just fuck up my browser senpai

either make an addon or wait a few days and someone will make one to bring back the old address bar.
not optimal but that's been my solution to every firefox "improvement" over the past 4 years.
>>
>>55905344
I don't care about those interface changes, I'm usually able to revert them to suit my tastes.

However, the buggy behaviour, the increased CPU usage and shit like this is making me really, really consider switching to Chromium.

You can only select whats in the drop down menu. Any search engines you add to Opera can only be accessed by a special keyword typed before whatever you are searching. Unacceptable.
>>
>>55928900
Yeah, sometimes browsing 4chan becomes impossible. 1+ sec lag on every action.

Huh, never noticed. But it's not "impossible",
