Set your connection to metered. That will allow you to update only when you allow it to. You can never choose which updates to install, unless you constantly run the update hide utility.

If you're on an 8" or so display, try touchmousepointer, it gives you a virtual trackpad that makes using certain parts of the interface a lot less frustrating. The current version is windows store cancer, but there's still an older version available.
