The one time i screwed with cyanogenmod it crashed the phone every time i tried to quit an application and the recommended restoration process ended up with the phone in Android 4.4 in Portugese.
And it looks like shit anyway.

As for your shitty experience, it probably happened because you fucked something up or it was an unofficial build.

Sounds like you didn't wipe properly prior to installing it, or installed a really early build.

And the "it looks like shit" thing can be easily changed with a theme that can be easily downloaded from the Play Store.
