I'm a good guy. A good person but I'm scared of where i'm going. I think programming and computers are ideologically where my pursuits probably are but it is hard to know where to even begin. I want to use computer to make the world a nicer more expansive place. where to start..
this is remarkably like something i would write at the age of fifteen while jamming to lincoln park
whats up kid whats on your mind

hi..
i want to be part of the forefront of computing being used to make the world better. i think im useless as a real person. i want to alter the landscapes on the digital level. maybe then i can be the good i always wanted to be. where do i start on my quest to become a digital sage?

take computer classes, dont do drugs, specialize in robotics, call your mother once a week, & try to see how things may be improved wherever you go
also install gentoo

> install gentoo
this part is important
Promote digital freedom.

I'm pretty sure this is b8, but I'll respond anyway.
Anon, if you haven't graduated from MIT with a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics and you're over the age of 16, you can forget programming. Seriously, the way everything is going there is absolutely no room for any kind of non-genius in programming. Why? Because it's turned into all plug-and-play apps. It's more secure, far cheaper, and easier to maintain. These days wanting a custom app is like wanting bespoke shoes: you'd better be rich as fuck and dumb.
If you want to make a difference, go into robotics.

That's bullshit. Programmers are still very much needed.
