Look /g/. I know many of you hate this. I can understand it, I mean, it lacks FLAC support or other less known formats, if you don't buy your music through there there's just too many fucking things to disable, it's not that customizable. It takes a fuckload of RAM on Windows, I would suppose it does on OSX as well.

But I like the thing it does with reorganizing music I add to the library, tagging files there is nice, and I do genuinely like the album art view (pic related). Can't I get foobar2k to be just like this?
>>
>>55895871
you can get foobar2k to be pretty much anything you want. Whether you'll manage to do it is another question. The things you describe are pretty basic though.
>>
>>55895871
>takes a lot of RAM
Not on macOS.
200MB of 16GB is nothing.

Use Musicbee, AIMP or at least WMP. Also, why'd you keep using ancient low quality codecs like ALAC and MP3 when there's FLAC and Opus?
>>
>>55896188
FLAC is pretty much == ALAC

Except that ALAC supports Apple's digital restriction management and for some reason iTunes is unable to play the clearly superior FLAC.
>>
>>55896308
I'm going to be really dumb and ask how does this digital restriction management affect music that you already have?

I mean let's say that you have some music in FLAC and you convert it. What do you lose exactly other than time?
>>
>>55896274
It ain't unable to, it's apple being unwilling.

1. M4A container > flac-vorbis abomination
2. I sorta want to switch too like OP, but the view I like is Artist. I need it to be tri-column and so it'd show the year and artist like this

does any player have this?
>>
>>55896447
That doesn't seem to be much RAM wasted.

iTunes is a shop / audio client.
They won't give support to any free formats nor lossless audio until they themselves move on.

They don't need to because people enjoy sucking their cock and don't even demand lossless audio in 2016...
>>
>>55896435
> let's say that you have some music in FLAC and you convert it
Nothing bad happens, FLAC is an open format.

However, if the original was bought on iTunes and is jailed with ALAC, there's no easy way to convert it to anything. You'd probably have to capture raw audio stream with some screen recording software.

Also, having to convert music from FLAC to ALAC just so that iTunes can open it sounds really dumb. Every proper player can open any audio file (assuming the codecs are installed), and some players can even open audio streams from video files (AIMP, for example).

Well i used to run a layout similar to yours in fb2k, but i really need columns

and it'd be great if it was cross platform (at least for linux) or ran acceptably in wine
>>
>>55896516
ALAC is lossless lol

it also supports AIFF and WAV which are also lossless
>>
>>55896538
Aight. I know that converting large collections of music in FLAC would be a pain in the ass -just- so you can play them on iTunes but I was still wondering if there was something else to it. I don't buy music from iTunes (or frankly, any other place, I'm a cheap shit) but I was wondering if ALAC somehow tampered with the quality or anything similar.

AIMP 4? Hotkeys don't work on Wine, can't use it on GNU\Linux.
>>55896579
Nah, lossless is lossless. The only difference is that ALAC additionally supports Apple's DRM, which can (and likely will) prevent you from playing *your* music where you want, i.e. on any device that can't run iTunes.

On a side note, Opus beats every single lossy codec in every single matter (quality\size and encoding speed), but iTunes won't support it because that doesn't profit Apple.
>>
>>55896567
WAV is bloated and no ID tags
AIFF looks like an apple version of WAV
>>
>>55896622
AIFF at least has tags.
>>

macfags will defend this
>>
>>55896639
It's not compressed like FLAC.
>>
>>55896687
then just use ALAC, it's only 1-2% larger than FLAC

I quickly tried to recreate your setup in MusicBee
The only thing I haven't found how to do is putting the tracks into multiple columns

>>55896621
>>55896555
I think Clementine is quite similar to MusicBee on Linux and is probably your best bet
>>
>>55896715
I almost forgot about Clementine. It looks awesome and works wondrous, but hotkeys might just refuse to work on your DE. And they also don't work on Windows. Fuck that.

Downloading flac release
>400mb flac file
>manually change .wav to .flac in .cue file
>half of metadata is missing
>album cover in separate jpeg
>cddb is unreliable shit, automated conversion in xld almost never works properly
>cddb is not consistent with itunes store - different names for the same artists/albums/etc
Downloading alac release
>it just works
>>
>>55896148
>>
>>55896953
>.wav in the cue file
>missing tags

Your trackers suck, man. I almost never run into that kind of shit.
>>
>>55896953
none of that has anything to do with flac/alac. also why would you use .cue files if you're not burning them to cd.
>>
>>55897021 Its a kat, piratebay, rutracker
>>55897441
>also why would you use .cue
Because those huge flac files with whole album in it do not contain any tags at all and do not detected by cddb.
>>
If iTunes can't play FLAC, which audio player should I use on OSX? Or is there a way to get it working on iTunes?
>>
>>55896953
Nice open trackers.
>>55897770
Use MP3 or I dunno. It's not even that bad, only about 2 times larger filesize for the same quality as a proper codec.
>>
Foobar2k can remember position in each playlists. Can musicbee also remember position in different playlists?

It sucks that they ditched plugin support with version 3. Once you could load up 3rd party MP3 players with it or install Quicktime plugins to support more file formats. If FLAC wouldv't existed, it would have FLAC support because of this.

But it didn't.
>>
>>55897770
It's not can't. It's WON'T.
applel wants to restrict your usage.
>>
>>55897770
aiff, man.
>>
>>55897770
Maybe it's a little bit late, but try the kode54 fork of Cog. It's not the best aesthetically but it supports many, many formats.

But you can't even natively use it outside of Windows.
