DON'T INSTALL IT IF YOU'RE USING BITLOCKER

MY 3TB HARD DRIVE THAT WAS BITLOCKER FULL DISK ENCRYPTED HAS BEEN DELETED. IT NOW SAYS "UNALLOCATED SPACE"

if only Linux was user friendly and allowed for full disk ecnryption, i would switch in a heart beat
>>
>>55889171

It has been automatically changed from GPT to MBR after I installed the anniversary update.

jesus fucking christ. I hope this happens to all of the BitLocker users out there in the US so a class action lawsuit will happen. It would be especially fun if it happened to major corporations

OP here, are you serious?

I don't know whether to laugh of cry because if this is widespread a lot of people are gonna get mad.

Just imagine this happening in a major corporation...

Okey, so in the future we should all disconnect all non-system drives before applying updates (if the update installation is causing this major issue).

May have found your issue. If you re-installed Classic Shell after upgrading, that is. http://www.classicshell.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6434

i didn't get a bios message and i didn't update to the latest classic shell either. I got an update message like yesterday but didn't install it.

Either way, classic shells seems to have been hacked

"Thanks for the quick reporting, guys!
Appears that FossHub got hacked and the file got switched. I fixed the main Download button to point to the Mediafire mirror, which is intact.
I will shortly remove the files from FossHub completely, and contact their support to investigate the breach.

To be safe, always check the digital signature of EXEs you downloaded, before you run them. The official Classic Shell installer has a signature for "Ivaylo Beltchev", and the fake one doesn't even have a signature." - Classic Shell developer in the same thread as the image

Fuck, i actually think it was Classic Shell Menu that deleted the MBR (even though my hard drive is GPT)

i tried installing the infected program and a CLI appeared for a split second, when i rebooted my 3TB hard drive had been deleted again.

Now here's the funny thing, my 3TB hard drive was "Drive 0" and my system drive was "Drive 1" when looking at the disk management window in windows or whatever it's called.

My system drive wasn't deleted so the infected program must only delete the "Drive 0" kek

with the windows updater. Not a clean install with USB.

But anyways, it appears some script niggers replaced the Classic Shell Menu .exe on FossHub with an infected program that deleted the partition tables for "Drive 0" in your computer.

My system drive was "Drive 1" and my 3TB hard drive was "Drive 0". Maybe it has something to do with wich SATA ports are on your motherboard, since they are numbered.

here you can read about it: http://www.classicshell.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6434

I must say this was a golden opportunity for hackers because the anniversary update removed the latest clean version of Classic Shell Menu and so people and myself included went to download the program again, but someone had swapped it with an infected version.

This still wouldn't have been a problem if Windows 10 didn't go around and uninstall programs though.

Remember to have backups.

BitLocker still sucks because with the new XTS-AES algorithm introduced with the windows november update corrupted all RAID 1 mirrored bitlocker drive that were using Windows Storage Spaces to create a software raid (i was a victim of this btw)
>>

If you don't know what you are talking about, don't post shit. Linux does support FDE. It also doesn't upload your key to your Microsoft Account for easy relay to interested parties.

Your first two lines were enough to warrant discussion.
>>

I updated classic shell to 4.3 before the anniversary update through the program not from the website and it didn't remove it, it did try to remove 8gadgetpack but failed to do so.

Here's an interesting discussion on why it's not that good of a distro.

http://www.linux.org/threads/do-not-use-ubuntu.3977/

One thing does puzzle me: people assume that users will eventually "move on" from Ubuntu/some other beginner distro. Most people aren't like that. Hell, you have people now refusing to learn Windows because they've always used OSx and vice-versa.

My personal problem with Ubuntu is that it's basically a mixup of Microsoft/Apple/Google business strategies.

These articles discuss nothing about the "power" of the operating system. I already know about the spyware dilemma, adware, and other questionable decisions, but the anon I replied to was claiming Ubuntu was somehow less powerful than other distros. These articles are not talking about that at all.

So I'll ask again, how exactly is Ubuntu less "powerful" compared to other distros?

>>
Do we have a changelog on everything that was changed with this update? Because so far I'm not seeing any benefits.

In file explorer, go to

>Options
>View
>Uncheck "Always show icons, never thumbnails"

Might randomly change back, I've been having this problem since well before the update.

Linux does have full disk encryption.

User friendly? Hah, this isn't preschool. No but seriously, Linux requires a different way of doing things. It's like suddenly having to tie your shoelaces yourself after using velcro shoes your entire life.
Not a complex task for a human.

Learn your tools properly. You learned your way around windows like a native language because you didn't have an alternative, don't let it trick you into thinking it's the way computing must be.

Fuck UAC.

It is Vista before SP1 all over again. I still remember a update back them that would fuck with the NTFS in such a way that would immediately BSOD any windows computer from XP to the DVD installer by just having it connected.

>>
>>55889877
If you could pull off a file switch for a piece of software used by many, why would you just use a virus that destroys computers?
You could put a virus on FossHub that integrates itself into Classic Shell and steadily integrates thousands of computers into a botnet for you to have fun with.
It makes me wonder if there's a virus that replicates itself by slipping into code compilations and software distributions, if it kept quiet by not mailing itself everywhere it could have a life cycle where it goes from software to developer computers to more software.

Honestly OP, you should at least give Linux a try on a partition. Get something easy like Manjaro (easier to install than win7) and learn it. It looks more complicated than it is. Spend a day getting use to it and you'll like it more than any Windows version. I wouldn't say it's more user friendly but anyone who goes on /g/ is able to learn it.
