I just tried updating from ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04. everything seemed to go ok during the upgrade but when it finished it said something like "upgrade failed" and then "the upgrade finished with errors."

I tried restarting my computer, but upon restart no apps or any features of the UI would work (nothing would launch besides the desktop).

I restarted again and now the OS doesn't even launch, I get a black screen that says a short message like "dev/sda2 19241/2109512 blocks..." seemingly referring to my hard drive.

this really sucks, what do I do?

Colors don't stick after configuring .Xdefaults. Already executed terminals have the configured color scheme but now If I open a new terminal the colors are back to a default black text on white.

I have memory of starting libvirt services before the incident occurred. But other than that this just seems out of the blue.

I can settle for a workaround instead of a fix. A way to set these specific colors as a command when starting xterm. I just want my specific color scheme every time I run xterm.

I just got Manjaro up and running. Very nice. There's this thing called Octopi on it. Kind of reminds me of Synaptic. I can basically search the entire AUR plus other repositories, add them to a basket, and install.

It's also very lightweight. Lubuntu was consuming ~850-950mb of Memory with nothing open. I currently have 2 Firefox tabs open, installing updating 250 packages in Octopi, and installing some icon packs and themes via terminal. Using 705mb memory.

What's a decent GUI based file manager?

Manjaro LxQT came with PCManFM but I don't like it for 2 reason.

1) It doesn't remember my view settings after I close it and re open it. Not to mention they fucking removed the shortcut keys so I always have to go through the view menu now.

2) There's no comment/notes column so that I can add short notes, which would be useful when I keep multiple versions of .jars and want to know quickly what the update is.
