Hey, /g/. Ignorant fag here. I have a question for you. What is the difference between liquid cooling and regular heatsinks (aside from the liquid obviously)? I'm building a beefy pc and can't decide which route to go with. I want something really quite and can cool really well. Can liquid cooling do these things better? Or is liquid cooling just something for bragging rights? I'd like to weigh the pros and cons if you can assist me. AS detailed as possible if you please.

If properly set up, WC can be quieter and cool your PC better.
The cons however, are numerous.

>far lower reliability because you're adding a fuckton more parts
>non-conductive fluids are a meme, they become conductive very quickly
>if you thought your room was hot before, you ain't seen nothing yet
>replacing major components becomes a major hassle
>requires actual maintenance unlike air-cooled where you just blow it out once a year
>is expensive as fuck, for a full loop you're looking at a good $500 minimum on top of everything else
>if you skimp on this you WILL fry something when it leaks in 2 months
>warranties will not cover this

>implying you can't just get a 120 dollar AIO and outperform all air cooling with none of those problems

AIO
>Pros
-Cools better
-Can be quieter
-Case height is not an issue

>Cons
-Costs more
-Needs a place in the case for the radiator
-Extra tubes in the case

The above assumes you are getting a good AIO, not putting a $50 AIO vs the NH-D15.

Solid air cooling solutions like dual tower phanteks or noctua coolers are far more efficient than AIOs, sure the AIOs look better at benchmarks, but they often don't show fan rpm, typical aio will need fans to spin much faster to reach similiar performance of a solid air cooled heatsink. They look pretty nice though.

Liquid cooling is a meme thermal regulator.
If you're obsessed with taking pictures of your rig guts and want something pretty to look at then yes get liquid cooling.
If you want reliability and top tier price performance, no hassle no maintenance set it and forget it get air cooling.
