Bitcoin is not and was never intended to be an anonymous currency/method of payment.

Bitcoin hasn't been any good since 2010.

Two things concern me about buying bitcoins.

Someone said you have to password protect your wallet or someone can crack it.
Wtf does that mean?
What security precautions should I take besides protecting the wallet on my computer?

Someone also said transactions can be faked so wait till they're confirmed before giving the money to a local seller.
I've used bitcoin once or twice but I don't understand what that means.

You do want to make sure that the transaction is confirmed before you hand over any money. It's pretty unlikely that they'll be faked though, so I wouldn't worry too much about this.

If the wallet is on your device, then you should password protect it in case the device gets stolen. If you are using a service that provides you with a wallet stored on their end, then you probably want to have 2 factor authentication or something.
