Why do you need an ATX motherboard and a full GPU for a HTPC?

Have an ATX mobo with an i3 with intergrated gpu, but I am looking forward to upgrade the GPU. But also if not, I will stream games from my main PC to the HTPC thru the network.

I've been thinking about this myself, because I'll be upgrading the mobo, cpu, ram on my main pc soon.

I've got some pretty loud, hot, old hardware though, so I think I'll actually start from scratch and spend a little more in a node 605 with modern components, and let it double as a mini server.
