Is the Windows firewall good enough or should I download something else?
>still using windows
>>55838522
Can't be fucked to learn Linux, maybe someday.
>>55838507
If you have to ask here and you can't be arsed to provide at least some background information than the chances of you needing / configuring one correctly so it even has chance to stop / protect you from any harm is are basically below 1%. Therefore don't even bother.
>>55838522
Windows 7 is still acceptable to use.
>>55838565
i think learning linux has become more relevant than ever since windows is moving into such a shitty direction.
>>55840167
wow talk about a desperate need for an adrenaline rush you self-righteous asshole
depend on how much of a fucking paranoid schizo you are
>>55840293
A paranoid schzio wouldn't use windows in the first place.
>>55840307
then keep using the windows firewall, who cares, you're not that important
>>55840316
I'm not OP, but okay.
>>55838507
Right before the demise of XP, I used Commodo free firewall.
I'm on Linux now.
>>55838507
Why even use a software firewall unless your PC is connected directly to a modem (which don't even really exist now, 90% have routers integrated)?
>>55838565
It depends entirely on what programs you usually use. The only real effort is learning apt-get and finding open-source alternatives to what you use. After that it's just like using Windows with different program names.
>>55838507
Yeah, a hardware based firewall running on an old box or a flashed router.
>>55842286
can you do executable-based rules with an external router?
>>55838507
yes, it's good enough unless you want an easy way of also controlling all outgoing connections. In that case, look for something else. I know Windows Firewall can do the above, but it's kind of a pain in the ass to deal with
A firewall is literally useless if you have a router, thing that all people already have
>he doesn't have a dedicated firewall
>>55846468
Yes, you can do that with an external firewall.
>>55846468
Is there any firewall for Linux that allows you to define firewall rules on a per-application/process basis?
>>55849071
no idea, I've only done port-based stuff with iptables/firewalld
What does a firewall REALLY do? I would put one for my Linux, and Windows installs.
