You can't ever completely disable windows 10 telemetry.
Even if you try to filter it off at the router level, you're still fucked if you use more than your home connection.
Microsoft is actively pushing towards making this ever harder to do as well - see the recent group policy change for example. They _will_ break whatever workaround you use.

The spyware has been backported to Windows 7 and 8.1 as well.

Having just switched to Windows 10 and tested this myself, the issue here (and to an extent the search on Win 8, but I used classic shell to bypass it) seems to be that the search now goes to 'best single local match' followed by 'bunch of things you could search with Bing if you wanted to, hey by the way Bing exists and you should totally use it'. The old system would just chuck up a bunch of similar matches, which was generally much more useful.
With Windows 10 at least you can click over to do a more detailed search that turns the start menu into a larger window, but it's more clicks than it needs to be.

The concept of forced updates is not bad. It's perfect for normies and tech idiots. Sort of like herd immunity. However microsoft's implementation of it is fucking retarded. Updates should only happen when the computer is idle with no programs running and either late at night when people are sleeping or during the day when people are out working. The one thing I never could stand about windows is that programs are lumped together in one fuck-huge list only organized in alphabetical order. Damn near every DE on linux has programs sorted in to categories. Unity is an exception and one of the reasons I switched to kde.

No it wont. They don't just copy Windows for the sake of copying Windows, they copy what they like from everywhere.
Cinnamon had quarter snapping, virtual desktops and exposé like OS X before Windows 10 introduced them. And a lot of other things 10 still doesn't have.

As for the start menu, there's like 5 different menus for Cinnamon from ones that copy 7 to ones that are as simple as possible.
All straight from the OS, along with other small programs for the task bar called Applets, all without looking up websites or using external tools.

Never really understood why people have stuff pinned to start or task bar. You can easily launch any program or file explorer using search.

You hit the Windows key then type the first few letters of whatever program and hit enter. Dunno, just seems faster to me to launch programs this way and makes your environment less cluttered.

I did this with dazloader, but I was dual booting 10 and 7.

It made my windows 7 partition become non genuine.
Then when I reapplied Dazloader on my 7 partition, it made 10 non genuine. Booted back into 7, and they were both non genuine.

I just wiped it and installed 7 and have never looked back
